"We have tried to stop the spreading of the bird flu virus to Jambi from the neighboring provinces by closing our doors to poultry coming from the affected areas. However, we have failed to stop the virus," Head of the Jambi Husbandry Services NatresUlfi said here on Wednesday.

In Jambi, the bird flu virus has killed hundreds of poultry, especially chickens, in Tanjung Jabung (Tanjab) Timur and Muaro Jambi districts as well as Jambi city.

The Jambi provincial authorities have conducted several measures to stop the virus from spreading over, among other things by culling the infected poultry, isolating the affected areas, and giving and disinfectant to areas which are still free from the virus.

Entering 2007, many bird flu cases have been found again.

Since the outbreak of this disease in Indonesia in 2005, at least 77 patients have been confirmed to be infected with the virus. Of the total, 61 died.
