Re: Indonesia - Sumatra April 21, 2007 +

All I know is that RSUP H Adam the Medan Owner is one of the biggest hospitals to handle AI. They have handled the most cases, besides Sadikin. For them to react this way tells me they think it is easily transmitted. Now, why would they think that? Word of mouth? Rumours? The HCW's diagnosis that we never heard about? I can see a Community Center, or even some of these smaller hospitals reacting that way. But not Adam the Medan Owner.

I had the same thought when I read it was this hospital. Either they think it's easily transmitted -- or they're being extra cautious (I know I would be!). Frankly, I'm glad they're so concerned! -- and hopefully taking due precautions.

Good question. No, I'm pretty certain none of them were in the RSU Adam Malik ["the Owner"] hospital which is in Medan in North Sumatra.

A few weeks ago, there were (at least) 5 HCWs hospitalized as suspected cases on Java -- different island altogether.

Then, there were 4 nurses with fever + 80 HCWs tested, all of whom were in contact with confirmed case, Marwiyah. Marwiyah was in hospital in Sumatra, but in Palembang which is in South Sumatra. She was in Hospital Dr Mohammad Hoesin (RSMH), Palembang. The HCWs tested were (I think) from this hospital and the local hospital/clinic she was treated in initially.

So, no -- different hospital. But, the HCWs jumping out of the room are in Sumatra as were the 84 in contact with Marwiyah earlier. Word spreads, I'm sure....
