A question.

The human samples and bird samples iin Indonesia have a different binding site sequence (suggesting that recent cases are not transmitted by poultry) yet all these outbreaks are associated with dying poultry. Is there a simple explanation for this seeming conundrum? Selection for the new sequence within each individual? Does the virus mutate that fast?

Or maybe bird flu is endemic in the environment and there are many opportunities for H5N1 transmission besides H2H.
