It is important to note that the best indicator for novel pandemic H1N1 infection is cough, a high fever or myalgia based on a study in Korea. (See: http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153211) There is no reason to believe that a novel A(H5N1) influenza infection in humans will not manifest itself in the same manner.

Comment: This article is not clear, it talks about four suspected bird flu patients admitted to Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital. In post #21 above the four people admitted were two children and two adults. This article may refer to these four.

However, this article indicates that three of them of children and reference fevers of 38 degrees. Post #31 above talks about three children with high fever that were going to be referred to Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital.

It may be that perhaps as many as eight people are being treated for bird flu in a Makassar hospital.

So what disease did these individuals contract? Since the beginning of 2010, Indonesia has only reported 6 confirmed patients with H5N1, five died. Perhaps it is only H5N1 when the patient dies.
