Indonesia gets help to 14 million dollars for bird flu

Jakarta - Indonesia this year receives assistance from the United States through USAID for 14 million U.S. dollars to combat bird flu outbreaks.
USAID Mission Director Walter North Indonesia in Jakarta, Wednesday (28 / 4) said the number of cases of bird flu in Indonesia is still ranked the highest in which the human mortality rate is also very high as well as the number kemaitan in poultry and while it is still endemic.
"Therefore this year USAID provides assistance 14 million U.S. dollars in an effort to reduce the impact of bird flu in humans and poultry," he said at the conference "Continuing Efforts to Decrease Risk of bird flu."
According to Emerging Infectious Diseases Specialist USAID Artha Camellia, the amount of aid agencies to combat bird flu in Indonesia this year, lower than in 2009 which reached 20 million U.S. dollars.
Decline in value of such assistance, he added, because the contribution from the Indonesian government at both the central and local levels to provide a budget for the prevention of bird flu has been quite large.
"So it's not because we no longer give priority to efforts to prevent bird flu in Indonesia," he said.
Since 2008 until today, he added, the total aid disbursed by these institutions for the prevention of bird flu in Indonesia has reached 80 million U.S. dollars.
