Pontianak ? A nine-year old girl is suspected of contracting bird flu H5N1 virus. Patient with initial UF had been admitted to bird flu/swine flu isolation unit of Dr Soedarso hospital on Monday 23/9, confirmed Dr Tita Selati Sundari, spokesperson of Dr Soedarso hospital.

Patient ? a resident of Jalan Padi, Pontianak city ? developed bird flu-like signs and had direct contact with birds. Chickens reared in patient?s house were reported to have suddenly died before she started to develop fever.

In meantime, Dr Soedarso hospital has collected throat swab sample of patient to be sent to Ministry of Health laboratory in Jakarta.

?She is recovering. Her temperature fell, and now we?re still waiting for confirmation from Jakarta,? said Tita.

UF is a new bird flu suspect treated by Dr Soedarso hospital within last two months. Previously the hospital treated a bird flu suspect patient, Winky.
