Today the Ministry of Health reports 2 H5N1 positive cases from february till april 2010.
A 4-year-old girl from Riau who died and 45-year-old woman from Malang, East Java who recovered.

I did not see any reports about the woman from Malang before today.

Bird Flu Still There, Two New Cases Found

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta - The Ministry of Health released two positive cases of bird flu (H5N1) that
occurred throughout the February-April 2010. Two new cases of the plague HA, housewife
45-year-old from Malang, East Java, and JE 4-year-old girl from
Pekanbaru, Riau.

HA was detected positive after a routine check at the nearest health center. HA comes to
Health Center on February 23, 2010 with complaints Influenza Like Illness. Then direct
done taking nose and throat swab specimens.

Results of laboratory tests on samples taken from nasal swabs and throat ago
showed that he suffered from H5N1 positive. "At present the condition of the HA in healthy condition," said
Head of Communications Ministry of Health, Tritarayati.

JE The laboratory examination revealed positive from April 28, 2010 and died
On that same day. JE experiencing symptoms of fever and was admitted to the Arifin Ahmad Hospital since the 19
April 2010. During the treatment in the isolation room at the hospital, his condition worsened. Finally
patient died on April 28, 2010.

JE's death makes the total deaths from bird flu in Indonesia until now reaches 136
people from the 166 positive cases.

Flu Burung Masih Ada, Dua Kasus Baru Ditemukan

TEMPO Interaktif, Jakarta - Kementerian Kesehatan merilis dua kasus positif flu burung (H5N1) yang terjadi di sepanjang Februari-April 2010. Dua kasus baru tersebut menjangkiti HA, ibu rumah tangga berusia 45 tahun dari Kota Malang, Jawa Timur, dan JE bocah perempuan berusia 4 tahun dari Pekanbaru, Riau.

HA dideteksi positif setelah melalui pemeriksaan rutin di Puskesmas terdekat. HA datang ke Puskesmas pada 23 Februari 2010 dengan keluhan Influenza Like Illness. Kemudian langsung dilakukan pengambilan spesimen swab hidung dan tenggorokan.

Hasil uji laboratorium terhadap sampel usapan yang diambil dari hidung dan tenggorokannya lalu menunjukkan kalau dia positif menderita H5N1. “Saat ini kondisi HA dalam keadaan sehat,” kata Kepala Pusat Komunikasi Kementerian Kesehatan, Tritarayati.

Adapun JE dinyatakan positif dari pemeriksaan laboratorium tanggal 28 April 2010 dan meninggal pada hari itu juga. JE mengalami gejala demam dan sempat dirawat ke RS Arifin Ahmad sejak 19 April 2010. Selama dirawat di ruang isolasi di rumah sakit itu, kondisinya terus memburuk. Akhirnya pasien meninggal tanggal 28 April 2010.

Kematian JE membuat total kematian akibat flu burung di Indonesia hingga saat ini mencapai 136 orang dari dari 166 kasus positif.

MOH confirms two H5N1 cases during Februari-April 2010

Jakarta ? Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia reported two bird flu H5N1 positive cases during February-April 2010. Victims were a 45-year-old housewife from Malang, East Java with initial HA, and a 4-year-old girl from Pekanbaru, Riau with initial JE.

HA tested positive through a routine check in a public health center when she came there on 23 February 2010 with influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms. Laboratory test to nose and throat swabs of HA showed positive H5N1 infection.

JE was confirmed positive H5N1 by laboratory test on 28 April 2010 and died on the same day. JE showed fever and had been treated in Arifin Achmad hospital since 19 April 2010. Her condition was worsening during the isolation until the death on 28 April 2010.

Fatality of JE has raised death toll of bird flu in Indonesia to 136 from 166 positive cases.

Any clue whether this first case had contact with poultry? The detection of an H5N1 case through routine flu surveillance is a bit troubling (although the fact that it occurred over two months ago is a little reassuring), in much the sense the detection of H1N1 in Southern California through routine surveillance was.

Any clue whether this first case had contact with poultry? The detection of an H5N1 case through routine flu surveillance is a bit troubling (although the fact that it occurred over two months ago is a little reassuring), in much the sense the detection of H1N1 in Southern California through routine surveillance was.

No further details on the 45 yo woman were published.

While no information about the woman was reported here, FT did report H5N1 among poultry in East Java in mid February at this link.

The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced two new confirmed cases of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus.

A 45-year-old female from the city of Malang in East Java province developed symptoms on 22 February. She recovered and is in a healthy condition. The case disposed of dead chickens in the 4 days before onset of symptoms.

The second case, a 4-year-old female from the city of Pekanbaru in Riau province developed symptoms on 19 April, was hospitalized on 22 April but died on 28 April. Investigations into the source of infection are ongoing.

Laboratory tests on both cases confirmed infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus.

Of the 165 cases confirmed to date in Indonesia, 136 have been fatal.
