Indonesia is believed to be the coordinator of the Asian Forum Asia-Latin America Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs Cooperation
In a Press Conference on January 17, 2010, at 12:15 local time, Foreign Minister of Indonesia Marty Natalegawa said that in the role of coordinator, Indonesia is ready to become a bridge between Asia and Latin America. Foreign Minister asserted that Indonesia has pioneered the role as liaison between the region between Asia and Africa in the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955. In the same spirit, Indonesia would perform the role as coordinator of Asia for Asian cooperation - Latin America.
Foreign Minister also stressed the belief that Indonesia will increase FEALAC cooperative relations between the two regions in a wider scope as identified in the Tokyo Declaration includes issues of common concern that the global economic crisis, social inclusion, and the environment and sustainable development.
Answering the questions of local reporters about what to expect cooperation from Indonesia in the future Japan, Foreign Minister of Indonesia and expressed Japan relations should always be mutual benefit. In addition to cooperation in the economic field and trade that has long existed, the bilateral cooperation has now expanded to various fields.
Currently Japan is Indonesia's main partner in the cooperation environment and climate change. Strengthening of democratic institutions is also a field of bilateral cooperation, in which Japanese support for promoting democracy by Prime Minister Hatoyama indicated that a co-chair of the Bali Democracy Forum II on December 10 to 11 20009.
Foreign Minister also added that cooperation between Indonesia and Japan will increasingly develop into a more mutual relationship and multi-sectoral needs with the election of Indonesia as a member of the G-20. This reflects the recognition of the role of Indonesia to the global issues.
