"Yes, we have received reports of cases of poultry deaths in Cihampelas, KBB. We confirm the cause of death with rapid tests, and 99 percent are positive for bird flu (H5N1)," Wiwin said when contacted, Thursday (3/12/2020).

Currently, the birds exposed to the bird flu virus are native chickens. However, this virus can be transmitted to other types of poultry by direct contact, so quarantine is necessary.

This case of bird flu in Cihampelas is the second case. The first case occurred in Cipeundeuy in February.

"So usually bird flu appears at every change of season. For birds that are still healthy, they are immediately quarantined for 14 days so they are not exposed to bird flu. Because of their zoonotic nature," he explained.

He said, the main characteristic of these birds being exposed to bird flu is the death of a large number of birds in one place (cage) and in a fairly fast time.

"Physical characteristics that can be seen from birds that die from bird flu, for example, the comb is bluish in color," he said.

He said the spread of the bird flu virus could be prevented by giving vaccines. Then his party urged residents to isolate the newly arrived birds. Poultry breeders in the West Bandung area are also asked to always keep their cages clean and also apply biosecurity properly.

"Chickens that have just arrived should not be directly put together in one cage. Transmission of the virus can occur among other birds," he said.
