Re: Indonesia - Human cases, July & August +

My take on the article was this "Mr" was a secretary to a Doctor. A Prof. Dr. Koeshartono SpAnKIC. I don't know what SpAnKIC means.
Mr entered Soetomo Hospital and was under observation for 3 days and then moved to ICU (GBPT) for 4 days. They are waiting for the results of the PCR Test. No contact w/poultry.

I'm fairly sure SpAnKIC is some sort of medical-related academic degree in Indonesia, like "M.D." or something like that. See this list of doctors at this Indonesian university -- there's an M.S. degree, a Ph.D., a SpAnKIC, etc.:
dr. VIctor Tambunan, SpGz
DR. dr. Sri Bekti Subaklr, MS
dr. Jeanne A. Pawitan, PhD
dr. Esti Soetrlsno, SpPA
dr. Silvia F. Lumampouw, SpKJ
Dr. dr. Budhl Setianto, SpJP(K)
dr. Marzuki Suryaatmadja, SpPK
drg. Sri Tjahyanl H.
Deswati Furqonita, SSi
dr. Tantani Soegiman, SpAnKIC

Dunno exactly what SpAnKIC stands for, though.

Exactly right. STMJ stands for 'Susu Telur Madu Jahe'. From Wikipedia Indonesia, toggletext-ed:
Telur Madu Jahe milk or normally was shortened by STMJ was the drink of the health that consisted of materials, the raw chicken egg, honey and ginger of cattle milk.

Eggnog - hot (or cold) milk, raw egg, honey (or sugar), alcohol (pick your own, brandy, rhum, whisky) and spices:

- ginger - aphrodisiac for women
- nutmeg - aphrodisiac for men

Till yesterday afternoon he was still being treated in Cut Meutia space of the Public Hospital isolation (RSUCM) Buketrata Lhokseumawe.
Beforehand, last week two villagers Alue Bade, Kecamatan Simpang Keuramat, Acehinese Utara, was expected suspek bird flu, but afterwards was based on the inspection clinically both of them were stated by the negative.

Nevertheless, until this did not yet have the certain decision from Research And Development Department of Health RI in Jakarta related results of the sample inspection of blood of the two patients that one of them the baby was 26 days old.

But afterwards, he was reconciled to RSUCM after the Peternakan Service, Perikanan, and Marine Acehinese Utara found seropositif bird flu to the poultry in the village of the Coat residence.

To follow up this case, said Makhrozal, the team from Dinkes Aceh Utara carried out good observation of the patient's family and his neighbours.

As far as this is concerned, although being not yet found by the patient suspek other bird flu, but when the team descended to the field, continued to be carried out by counselling at the same time the socialisation about the danger of the bird flu virus (avian flu).

In the meantime, the medical team from the Hospital of PT Arun, Dr M Syakiri justified his side on Wednesday (8/9) received a patient who was suspected suspek bird flu.

Explained, when coming to take medicine in RS PT Arun, the condition for the Coat was experiencing the high fever, the cough, and crowded.

Then remembered his residence village including the region that often was found by the chicken died mass and the patient then recently was mengonsumsi the poultry, then this patient was stated suspek bird flu.

After having this sign we at once coordinated with the RSUCM side, sehinggga on that day also the sufferer was evacuated to sana,? he said.
In the meantime, Dr Suhaemi as the medical staff in RSUCM that handled this patient confirmed on Saturday (11/ yesterday that the Coat suffered suspek bird flu, so as several last days were still being treated in isolation space.

However, clinically, he said in several last days the condition for the patient increasingly improved, so as increasingly small his possibility suffered bird flu.

?Tetapi although we were still being waiting for the decision from Research And Development Department of Health RI in Jakarta towards results of the inspection of the patient's blood.

After that, just the patient was permitted to go home,? he accused.

Positive to the poultry

Whereas Head of Sector Keswan Dinas Peternakan, Perikanan, and Marine Acehinese Utara, drh Rizal, said in the Uteuen Geulinggang Village had been found seropositif to the poultry that still was living.
Last week indeed many poultries in the region that died suddenly, including in the patient's JAS house.

However, was based on results of the inspection with rapid test (the fast test) evidently in the JAS house of results seronegatif.

In spite of that, the case seropositif the bird flu virus was also was found in the village, but precisely to the poultry that still was living.

Bali doctors investigate possible bird flu deaths

http://abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/08/13/2003269.htm?section=world

By Peter Cave

There are fears that the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu may have spread to the Indonesian resort island of Bali.

Doctors at Bali's Sanglah Hospital are waiting for test results after the deaths of a 29-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter.

If the tests prove positive, it will be the first confirmed human case of the deadly disease on the tourist island.

Suspicions that Ni Luh Putu Sri Windani died of bird flu have been strengthened by reports that several birds died suddenly near her home.

Doctors are also reinvestigating the death earlier this month of the woman's daughter from breathing difficulties and a high fever.
