Padang: the regional Public Hospital (RSUD) Muhammad Djamil, Padang, West Sumatra, again treated three patients suspect bird flu.
A person among them evidently in the critical condition.
Two from three patients were pre-schoolers.
Both of them were Zahra from Padang North and Refi, the resident of the South Canal of the coastal Regency.
Whereas another was the mature patient was 80 years old.
He it was known was named the Ferry from Batang Kapas.
The three patients were treated for four days.
They experienced the sign of bird flu, like coughs, breathless and feverish high.
However, up to now, the hospital side was still being waiting for results of the blood test of the three patients of the Department of the Health in Jakarta.
According to the Head of the Field RSUD Muhammad Djamil, Irayanti, of the Medic's Service the case of bird flu in West Sumatra this year increased significant was compared 2006.
Since the beginning 2007, the patient who was treated has reached 34 people, whereas the year beforehand only 11 people.

A question for someone more expert than I. Since Indonesia has not provided samples for sequencing since January, how accurate will the PCR tests be if there have been mutations/ evolution in the viral genome?

In the hopes that they're talking about poultry and not people (and I'm not at all sure about that), I tried to find some info -- any info -- on either the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture site and/or the Jatim Province site about bf levels in poultry or even about the current situation in Jatim [East Java], but I didn't have any luck.
I sure hope they're not talking about situation in humans....

I'm gonna call it as Level 5 in poultry. The news stories -- while they mention all the human cases in East Java to date -- are mainly about the local authorities trying to get funding organized for more vaccines for poultry (not vaccines for people, of course). The recap of human cases is 'background', I think. If it were Level 5 in humans, I'd assume they'd be looking to do more than purchase more poultry vaccines.
I'll keep looking for more. In any case, it's not good news....

I thought the same thing as in birds but the more i think about it,why would they have a level 5 in birds?It's already level 6 in birds,and cats and other animals that can carry H5N1,they are dying by the millions, and many have been dying there a long time or have been culled.I've reported chickens,cats,dogs,flies,and people dying from H5N1 there.Do they think any thing else has to be added to a bird level?What is level 6 in birds there? I wish we had some info on the Indonesian government's (Ministry of Agriculture, I presume) epizooic levels. I don't even know how many levels they have -- and I can't find any info on them, darnnit. That would help to shed some light on this question, I think....
