Influenza Pandemic Epicenter Preparedness Simulation, Makassar, South Sulawesi, 25 ? 26 April 2009.



Transmission threat of bird flu virus currently occurs from birds to human. For influenza pandemic preparedness, Indonesia government has designed two scripts, i.e. if epicenter occurs inside Indonesia or outside Indonesia. This script has been noted in National Pandemic Preparedness and Response Plan (NPPRP) March 2008.



To enhance capability, technical skill and coordination on all sectors, including citizens, this Simulation will be held in Makassar on 25-26 April 2009.



Influenza pandemic epicenter defined as first location where epidemiology and virology signal of influenza pandemic is detected.

Last Friday (17/4), dr Arie Bratasena- Head of Acute Upper Respiratory Acute Infection Sub Directorate ? and Mayor of Makassar Ir. H. A. Herry Iskandar, MSi were having audience about the Simulation rehearsal preparation.



Simulation event itself will be held at RW 1 Kelurahan Kassi-Kassi and RW 2 Kelurahan Bontomakio, Gresetelina hospital, Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital (reference hospital) and Sukarno Hatta Harbour, Makassar. This will involve regional authorities (Pemda), RI Police Department (POLRI) and RI National Army (TNI).

At this event, Mayor will give message to surrounding public and entrepreneur parties where the Simulation will take place ? to participate in accomplishing the event. Furthermore, a prosperous result hopefully will bring good reputation of Makassar and South Sulawesi Province not only within national scope but also international.



This Simulation will be attended by central authorities and also certain institutions and international foundations as watchers. About 600 participants, including stakeholders of Makassar, South Sulawesi province and central government, will also join the event. Number of watchers will be 132 persons from 54 national and international institutions.



This influenza pandemic epicenter simulation in Makassar is the second simulation. First event was held in Desa Dangin Tukadaya, Kabupaten Jembrana, Bali on 25-27 April 2008.

Makassar is chosen regarding to its people?s invaluable corporation, sufficient infrastructure also role as connective route for rapid transportation to Eastern Indonesia.
