BANJARMASINPOST.CO.ID, BALIKPAPAN - City Health Office (DKK) Balikpapan has not been able to ensure the removal of the status of outbreaks (outbreaks) communicable disease diphtheria in Balikpapan. The reason, until now DKK still find cases of diphtheria. Last week, two cases found in the village of Muara Rapak, Aberdeen North and Sub-Mount Joy, South Balikpapan.
"We can not revoke the status of outbreaks because the case is still there," said Chief DKK Balikpapan, Dyah Muryani in his office on Tuesday (09/11/2010).
During 2010, found 24 cases of diphtheria with the two victims died. This amount is quite astonishing because of the previous year did not find any cases of disease caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium Diphteriae this.
It is said Dyah, the status of outbreaks will end by itself when the 2010 fiscal year was completed in December. This status will be reviewed in early 2011.
During the outbreaks of 2010, DKK has spent approximately USD 400 million. In addition to buying anti-diphtheria serum (ADS), these funds are used to finance research-epidemiologic disease was classified as Reemerging Disease.
"Diphtheria should not appear again because prevention is done through immunization," said Dyah.
