25 Banten Residents Die from Dengue Fever

TEMPO.CO, Serang - The spread of dengue fever (DBD) in Banten Province has been increasingly concerning. Based on the data of Banten Province?s Health Department, in January, 25 of 785 dengue fever sufferers died.

According to the Head of Banten Health Department M. Yanuar, dengue fever cases predominantly occurred in Tangerang Dictrict with 270 cases and 13 died. Second highest is in Pandeglang District with 224 cases and five died. ?On that basis, Tangerang District Administration has declared dengue fever as an extraordinary occurrence or KLB. Pandeglang could also be set with KLB status,? said Yanuar on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Palu (ANTARA News) - A ten-month-old toddler from Sigi District in Central Sulawesi has died of dengue fever at the Undata General Hospital, according to the hospitals spokesperson, Dr Purwaningsih.

"One patient of dengue, a toddler aged ten months from Palopo sub-district, died on January 13, 2016, at the Undata hospital," Purwaningsih remarked here on Thursday.

She noted that the toddler died of dengue fever a day after being admitted to the hospital.

According to Purwaningsih, some 26 dengue patients were treated at the hospital from January until February, and four other patients are still in the hospital...

The rise in dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) cases continued on Wednesday in a number of regions across the country, with Boyolali, Central Java, reporting four deaths.

Boyolali-run hospital RSUD Pandanarang was treating 26 DBD patients on Wednesday. It treated 54 cases in January, including the four fatalities.

?The four patients who died came to the hospital when their conditions were already critical, and they were difficult to treat,? said physician Nur Alifah at the hospital.

Nur said that RSUD Pandan Arang had been receiving DBD patients every day since early January. They were normally sent home after being treated for three to four days at the hospital, she said.

Besides Boyolali, the disease is on the rise in at least in six other regions in the province, including Surakarta, Sragen, Klaten and Wonogiri, with Sragen reported to be the worst hit...

The health office?s head, Ketut Suarjaya, says that there were 1,000 reported cases of the mosquito-borne virus in January 2015, while there were only 473 cases so far this year during the same period...

There may be a global scare because of the specter of the Zika virus lately, but dengue fever ? which presents similar symptoms to Zika ? is an all too real and present threat to Indonesian lives.

In the first month of 2016, one of the Indonesian cities hit hardest by the mosquito-borne disease has been Bekasi. The satellite city recorded a sharp increase in dengue fever cases in January, with 165 sufferers.

Sadly, 6 of those were toddlers who died from the disease...

Dengue fever (DBD) continues to spread throughout a number of regions in Indonesia, with at least 70 people reported to have been killed by the mosquito-borne disease during the first five weeks of the year.

On Thursday, the Central Java Health Agency reported that the disease had claimed the lives of 15 local residents and hospitalized 1,080 others in January alone.

Agency head Yulianto Prabowo said his office had called on local physicians, particularly those in regions that have reported a high prevalence of DBD, including Jepara regency, and the municipalities of Semarang and Magelang, to stay alert and provide immediate treatment to those patients that they suspect may have contracted the disease.

The Health Ministry has stepped up efforts to mitigate the outbreak of dengue fever, which has in some provinces prompted local authorities to declare an emergency...

...The ministry said 11 regencies and municipalities in seven provinces had declared dengue outbreak ?extraordinary occurrences?.

The regencies and municipalities are Tangerang in Banten; Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra; Bengkulu; Denpasar and Gianyar in Bali; Bulukumba, Pangkep, North Luwu and Wajo in South Sulawesi; Gorontalo; and Kaimana in West Papua...

...Meanwhile, the head of the blood transfusion unit at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Padang, Widiarman, said on Friday there was an extreme shortage of blood supply, which could complicate efforts to tackle dengue. ?We are asking for donors or relatives to overcome the deficiency,? he told The Jakarta Post.

The West Sumatra Health Agency has stated that 150 of the 700 cases of dengue in the province had occurred in Padang. Four fatalities were recorded in Padang and one in Bukittinggi..

1,100 Dengue Fever Cases Reported in Bekasi

TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bekasi City Government reported that the number of dengue fever patients in the city in the period of 2016 (January ? March) has reached 1,100 people.

At least 17 of them have died.

Dengue on the rise: Bali health authorities warn of sharp increase in mosquito-borne disease this year

Dengue fever is striking Bali with a vengeance this year as over 40 deaths from the viral disease have been reported on the island from the beginning of 2016.

Unfortunately for tourists, mosquito breeding seriously needs to be curbed in popular traveler destinations including Badung and Gianyar, health authorities say.

"The increase in those areas are quite sharp ... The one in Gianyar (near Ubud) especially, the incident is quite high," Wayan Pujana from the Bali Health Office told AAP on Wednesday.

But at least on the bright side, dengue numbers in the city of Denpasar seem to be dropping.

Recently released statistics show the number of dengue cases in Bali from January to April this year at 7,794 is getting close to 10,700, the total number of cases across Bali in all of 2015.

Meanwhile, in terms of the dengue death count, from January to April 2016, 38 people died in Bali from dengue, while 29 died in 2015 over the entire 12-month period...

Dengue fever has already claimed at least 38 lives in Bali this year, where there has been 7,794 reported cases of the viral infection, an official said.

The death toll from the first four months of the year, all within the rainy season, is almost double what it was in the same period last year.

Bali Health Agency head I Ketut Suarjaya told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that dengue cases were on the rise.

?Dengue fever continues to spread and has claimed an increasing number of fatalities,? Suarjaya said.

In 2015, from January until April, there were only 20 fatalities caused by dengue fever. The death toll for the whole year was only 28.

Those numbers were higher than in 2014 when dengue fever caused no deaths from January to April and just 17 deaths for the year.

Out of the 38 people who have died from the fever this year, 13 were in Denpasar, 11 in Buleleng, eight in Gianyar, five in Badung and one person in Jembrana.

At this stage only Gianyar has declared an extraordinary situation with regard to the dengue outbreak, due to the high number of fatalities...

Dengue Claims Seven Lives in Ambon

TEMPO.CO, Ambon, Maluku - Up to early June 2016, dengue cases in the eastern Indonesian city of Ambon in the province of Maluku rose to 139, which included seven fatalities, according to local health office spokesperson Yusda Tuharea.

"Last year there were only 25 dengue cases but up to early June this year the number increased to 139, which also included seven deaths," Tuharea remarked on Saturday.

Dengue fever is spreading across five areas in the city of Ambon, namely Kayu Putih, Passo, Kebun Cengkeh and Batu Merah, and Benteng Karang, she said.

Dengue fever is currently at an endemic stage in some regions of Indonesia such as North Sumatra, Banten, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara.

In West Nusa Tenggara, it has claimed 22 lives, according to local Health Office Chief Eka Junaidi...
