Bengkulu ::: Chickens tested positive bird flu

Bengkulu ? Chickens belong to people in Bengkulu, tested positive bird flu infection. Samples were submitted to the Livestock and Animal Health Service Bengkulu Province laboratory for confirmation, said Head of Livestock, Fishery and Marine (DPPK) Benteng, Durani Usman, through his staff Fadli, Saturday (13/6).
According to Fadli, his team collected samples from 3 dead chickens and one living chicken. Two samples from dead chickens showed positive bird flu virus.
Sample collection was done after officials received report that number of suddenly died chickens had been increasing to 20 chickens.
?For further action, we?re still waiting the lab test result and further instruction from Provincial Livestock and Animal Health Service?, described Fadli.
Fadli worried of further spreading would happen, because mostly people did not burn and bury the dead chickens but dispose them to the ponds or drainage canal. In fact, the spread of this virus might occur easily, not only be facilitated by birds but also by soil, water and air. For preventing this, his team has provided extra disinfectant.
?People are keeping free-ranged farming practice, or not caging their chickens. We have mentioned that people could ask for more disinfectant supplies when needed?, said Fadli.
Subsequently, Health Service of Benteng has dispatched its team to check the health condition of people surrounding. So far, no bird flu symptoms found in human.
Furthermore, officials conducted the socialization of bird flu infection to the public. People were required to report to nearest Health Service office or public health center. ?This is for anticipation. Because when it?s transmitted to human, it can be fatal,? said the secretary of Health Service of Benteng, Dahril Mukminin.
