"If the AI virus that fell on the pig livestock immediately was not anticipated, it was worried about could infect the pig livestock naturally in Bali," said Mahardika.
The AI virus apart from attacking the animal livestock, the raging virus in accordance with the official data through to eight in September 2006 attacked 63 people in Java and Sumatra, 48 people among them died.
"Until at this time the case of bird flu in Bali was not yet found was to humankind contagious," said Mahardika while expecting all the sides to increase vigilance to avoid the illness that was dangerous enough this.
Bali with the inhabitants around 3.2 million souls, had the poultry population that was solid enough namely approximately 12 million tails, one million tails among them the pig.

The baby 8 months could be expected by Bird Flu
Sept 2, 2006

Denpasar (Bali Post) - RS Sanglah on last Friday (1/9) accepted the consignment patient from RS Tabanan that it was suspected was infected by the bird flu virus. The patient, mentioned GAA that still was eight months, according to his father, old has been feverish since six days (on Sunday (27/8)). When the first day the fever, he was at once brought to the community health centre took medicine. Until his medicine was finished, his fever did not descend also. Because of that on last Friday (1/9) GAA was at once brought to RS Tabanan. Berhubung the GAA environment close to the poultry, the side of RS Tabanan at once reconciled him to RS to get further help.

"Indeed his grandfather could buy the chicken from the Market Bringkit last Wednesday (23/8), for the Tilem need. One of the chickens died, afterwards following our three kept chickens," said the father. He admitted all the family could be [were] attacked by flu, but all of them have recovered except his youngest child.

As RS reconciliation, the side RS immediately responded to this case seriously. According to Dr. Ken Wirasandhi, Kasi Yadmed Treat Street RS, the medical side RS immediately held the inspection in accordance with the procedure. The patient was brought from RS Tabanan with the diagnosis was suspected by bird flu. The medical official checked and took the sample of blood by making use of the protective equipment and in the special room for the bird flu inspection, said Ken when being contacted Balinese Post, on last Friday (1/9).

After doing anticipation by analysing as well as putting forward standard questions to the family, the medical side RS stated that GAA was not affected by bird flu. This was 'supported from the physical inspection and the story of contact of the poultry did not happen, so this not bird flu', he said. :re: According to Ken someone was affected by bird flu if could experience contact with the poultry. "From the 'family's story, the baby never contact with the poultry'," he added.

His plan of GAA will be treated in Jempiring after the intensive inspection in IRD was finished was done, not in Nusa Beautiful that was prepared RS to treat the bird flu patient. The patient will be treated in the child's space Jempiring. [In other words, another suspected bf patient NOT being kept in isolation....]

15 candlenuts, chopped

25-30 bird's-eye chillies
10 stalks lemon grass, sliced

1 teaspoon dried shrimp paste, roasted
5 fragrant lime leaves, finely shredded
2 salamleaves
2 1/2 tablespoons oil
4 tablespoons turmeric water

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="85%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=25></TD></TR><TR><TD>Ensure the inside of the suckling pig is completely cleaned out. Season inside and outside with salt.
Combine all other ingredients, except turmeric water, and mix thoroughly. Fill the inside of the suckling pig with this mixture, close the belly with string or thin satay skewers. Rub the outside of the pig with turmeric water until the skin is shiny yellow. Place the suckling pig on a roasting rack and roast in hot oven (220°C/425°F) for approximately one hour. Rest for 10 minutes in warm place before serving.
When serving, first remove the crisp skin with a strong carving knife, then loosen meat from the bones and cut into even dice or slices. Place a heaped tablespoon of stuffing on each serving plate, then top with meat and skin. Traditionally this dish is eaten with Jukut Nangka Mekuah and steamed rice.
Helpful hint:
If you have a large barbecue with a rotisserie or constantly turning spit, you can cook the pig over charcoal for an authentic Balinese flavour.
Selamat makan!

A report about bf in Bali from August. Hat-tip, Dutchie!

Aug 12, 2006

(...)

In Bali, bird flu did not only shake the life of the breeder, but also damaged the sector of tourism in the Island of the Gods. If the other country dismissed travel warning in connection with this case, Balinese tourism that was developed was difficult tired after twice was bashed the bomb will come back was destroyed.

Although up to now was not yet found by humankind that was infected by bird flu in Bali, the area was stated as the alert area endemi bird flu.

For the length of October 2003 till June 2006, the Investigation Hall and the Testing of Veteriner Bali recorded poultries in 92 villages from 686 villages in the Balinese Island has tertular [been contaminated by] the virus AI. The Regency that most terjangkit [contaminated] was Bangli, Jembrana, and Tabanan.

To prevent this virus expansion, the Balinese Provincial Government carried out various preventive actions. Apart from the vaccination to millions of poultries in Bali, the Balinese Provincial Government also applied the ban on the entry of the poultry from Java and the West Nusa Tenggara since mid 2005.

Moreover, two villages in Gianyar also were planned to the village was responsive to bird flu. Two villages his plan will become the maintenance model village and the maintenance of the poultry in an integrated manner and hygienic.

Among the delay of the co-ordination centre-area, the regency/the city currently becomes the prop to control bird flu. If not preceptive, this Garuda birds country could become the source of the world misfortune. All of us was convinced that will not happen at this time if and only if we wanted to work hard to know this virus.

Are they saying their swine AI is idenitical to the Sumatra (?Karo) cluster?
And that it has a2,3 receptor preference? Or are they saying it doesn't yet have full RBS capability, i.e., only 227?

BTW - what swine flus currently reside in Balinese swine? Any 228 or 226 mutations?

Also - thanks and welcome to Dutchie. ;)
