Finding 13 Cases of Japanese Encephalitis, Yogyakarta City Health Office Prepares Immunization to Prevent Transmission

KOTA, Joglo Jogja – The Yogyakarta City Health Service (Dinkes) recorded that in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) there were 13 suspected cases of brain tissue inflammation or what is commonly called Japanese Encephalitis (JE). So that in 2024 immunization will be carried out to prevent inflammation of the brain.

Head of the Disease Control and Prevention division of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Lana Unwanah, said that cases of suspected brain inflammation in DIY had spread to several districts such as Sleman and Bantul. Currently, there are no cases in Yogyakarta City.

"We have carried out testing at the laboratory, where of the 10 cases we tested, all the results were negative," he said in Yogyakarta, Monday (6/11)

He added, however, in 2024 vaccination will be carried out so that children in the city of Yogyakarta are protected from this disease. This is also a program of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), because throughout Indonesia there have been 145 cases of brain tissue inflammation caused by the JE virus.

“The most common clinical symptoms are fever, impaired consciousness, seizures, headaches, nausea and vomiting. "By targeting all children aged 9 months to 15 years," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases and Immunization Section at the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Endang Sri Rahayu, explained that his party had coordinated to intensify vaccination. Where he has carried out outreach to community health centers in his area.
