BARITO TIMUR - A number of pigs belonging to the community in East Barito Regency (Bartim), Central Kalimantan died suddenly due to the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus. African swine fever is currently being detected in a number of villages in East Barito. "Yes, that's right. Currently, it is starting to be detected in Tangkan and Ampari villages, Awang sub-district," said the Head of the East Barito Fisheries and Livestock Service, Mishael, Sunday (23/1/2022). 24,000 Pigs in Sanggau Die from ASF Virus
March 2, 2022 0

Sanggau, BerkatnewsTV. Thousands of pigs in Sanggau died suddenly in the last four months. The death of the pigs was caused by the attack of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus or more popularly called swine flu.

This flu is known to be highly contagious and can accelerate death in pigs by up to 100 percent.

"We don't know for sure the exact number of pigs that were attacked by the Swine Flu virus, but based on the sample data we sent to the Banjar Baru Bivet laboratory from three sub-districts, namely Sekayam, Noyan and Entikong sub-districts, all of them were positive for ASF or swine flu," said the Head Plantation and Livestock Service (Bunnak) Sanggau Syafriansah, Wednesday (2/3).

Syafriansah said, since the swine flu case occurred in September 2021, thousands of pigs died suddenly.

The pig population continues to decline. Initially 34,594 individuals, now only 10,378 individuals remain. That's because 24,216 pigs died suddenly.

"This is data from September 2021 to January 2022, right. What is clear is that economically, our farmers have suffered quite a large loss,” he said.

He said that his party had tried to break the chain of the spread of the ASF virus.

In addition to appeals to the sub-district head and outreach to farmers, spraying disinfectant in pig pens as biosecurity and ASF serum vaccination at the border.

"We have done 1,600 doses of vaccines. The vaccine must be repeated 3 times per 10 days," he concluded. (pack)
