Dengue Fever in North Jakarta, One Died

Residents of two urban villages in North Jakarta are requesting local Health Sub-Department to conduct fogging in their residential regarding dengue fever findings. Moreover, one of five residents who suffered dengue fever died last February, namely Joko Susilo (14), a resident of RT 04/03 Pegangsaandua Urban Village, Kelapagading Sub-District. While in Sukapura Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, two of its residents also suffer the same disease.

Chief of RT 04/03 Pegangsaandua, Roni, said there are three residents suffered from dengue fever in these last two months. Those residents were Karsem (45) who was treated at Sukapura Islam Hospital last February, Novianti (14) who was treated at Koja General Regional Hospital at the end of March, and Joko Susilo who was treated and died at Koja General Regional Hospital last February...

As many as 115 Central Jakarta citizens got infected by dengue fever (DBD) since these last three months. The disease caused by the bites of aedes aegypty mosquito has a tendency to increase in numbers of occurrence, all the more so during weather transition period.

The city administration has warned Jakartans about the imminent threat of a dengue fever outbreak during the transition from the rainy to dry season.

Jakarta Health Agency head Dien Emawati said on Wednesday that the number of people infected with the virus was on the rise in the first four months of this year, reminding residents to seek prompt medical treatment in a bid to curb fatalities.

?Residents must be aware of the symptoms of dengue fever. If they suffer a symptom, such as experiencing high fever for a long period followed by a sudden drop in body temperature, they should go to the hospital immediately,? she told The Jakarta Post.

As of May, the agency recorded 1,399 cases in East Jakarta alone, with six fatalities. South Jakarta has the second highest rate, with 678 cases during the same period, but with no fatalities reported.

The head of the health office in East Jakarta, Safarudin, said the number of dengue cases in the municipality in the same period last year was 1,167...

The Health Ministry expects an increase in the number of dengue fever cases this year, the first time in three years, due to the prolonged wet season.

?As of May 2013, Jakarta had already seen 3,119 cases of dengue fever, almost half of last year?s. The trend has repeated in other provinces,? Tjandra Yoga Aditama, the ministry?s director general of disease control and environmental health, said recently.

Data from the Health Ministry shows that the reported number of dengue outbreaks was almost 160,000 in 2010, which dropped to just over 90,000 in 2012...

Dengue fever is still haunting the citizens of South Jakarta. How could it not be, if from January to July 2013, at least 1,144 citizens of the municipal were suffering from the disease that manifests from the bite of aedes aegypti mosquitos.

Out of 10 sub-districts in South Jakarta, most cases occurred in Jagakarsa with 176 patients, followed by Pasarminggu 147 cases, Kebayoranlama 129 cases, Pesanggrahan 127 cases, Tebet 126 cases, Cilandak 101 cases, Kebayoranbaru 98 cases, Pancoran 91 cases, Setiabudi 87 cases, and Mampangprapatan 62 cases.

Residents who suffered dengue fever in Jakarta are still high. The highest rate of dengue fever, especially in West Jakarta, is in Cengkareng sub-district, Kalideres, and Kembangan. Based on Bylaw No 6/2007 about dengue fever control, Jakarta Dept. of Health is about to hold socialization for those three sub-districts.

West Jakarta head of Sub-dept. of Health, Widyastuti, said there were 603 dengue fever cases since January to end of March 2014. In details, Cengkareng 124 cases, Kalideres 103 cases and Kembangan 157 cases...
