Sixth death connected to Indiana reported in fungal meningitis outbreak

A sixth person connected to Indiana has died from the fungal meningitis outbreak linked to an injectable steroid.

According to the Indiana State Health Department, the latest victim was from out of state and not an Indiana resident. Six people with ties to Indiana have now died from the outbreak; there are 56 confirmed cases in the Hoosier State...

This is the death that CDC currently has listed in MI, but the MI Dept. of Community Health isn't including it in their total. Instead, they list it as the 2nd MI resident to die in MI due to treatment they received out-of-state.

I was waiting to see if the CDC changed their listing but they haven't posted an update today.

Indiana reports 59th fungal meningitis case​


"INDIANAPOLIS ?

Indiana has recorded its 59th case of fungal meningitis linked to injections of a recalled back pain medication.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported the new total Tuesday. The latest total compares with 56 cases of the rare disease in Indiana last week.

The agency has not released any information on where the cases are located..."

Indiana sees 7th meningitis death

"INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Another person has died in connection to tainted steroids at Indiana clinics that caused fungal meningitis.

Seven people have now died as a result of the injections received at Indiana clinics. Some of the people who have died have been from outside the state, but traveled to Indiana for treatment.

It wasn?t clear Friday if the latest victim was from Indiana.

Overall, 68 people have developed fungal meningitis as a result of the pain medicine tied to an East Coast clinic. "

There have been no reports from the media or the Department of Health about new cases since my last post dated Dec. 17th.

Elkhart County has seen its third death from an outbreak of fungal meningitis that's been connected to injections of a recalled back pain medication, according to a county health official.

Added: We had 3 deaths as of October. I wonder if they took Pauline Burema out of the Elkhart County count because she lived in Michigan... and this is a new one?

This weeks CDC report lists 2 new deaths in IN. There are no official or media reports of a death aside from the one reported in the post by Mixin above.
