Deadly Floods in Chhattisgarh and Odisha

Monsoon rain has brought deadly floods the central and eastern parts of India over the last few days, killing at least 5 people with 2 still missing.

Two deaths occurred in the state of Chhattisgarh, where around 300 villages have been flooded. Three people died in flooding in the neighbouring state of Odisha after rivers overflowed.

Himachal Pradesh:-

Update upto 1700 hrs dated 30.07.2014 regarding the missing 01 Guide and 24 Students in flash flood, Mandi (H.P). 24 dead bodies of students have been retrieved. Rescue operation is continues to retrieve dead body of missing guide.


Maharastra

On 30.07.2014 at about 0830 hrs, due to heavy rain, a landslide took place in Malin Village Tehsil- Ambegaon, Distt. Pune, Maharashtra. The place is situated approx. 120 Kms from Pune. As per the reports received from State Disaster Control Room and NDRF Control Room, the death toll in above said incident reached to 31. So far 8-14 person rescued and sent for treatment at various hospitals in Pune.

Total 09 teams of NDRF consisting 371 rescuers alongwith 06 Nos Dog Squad carrying executive search Ops.

State Government also geared up local administration and opened Control Rooms at Gode Gam, Manchar, for rescue operation. 50 Ambulances, 20 Dumpers and 15 JCB machines are deployed and working around the clock. The rescue operations are hampered due to rains in the area. Medical Units, Food packets, Flood lights are being provided. Rescue and relief operations are continued.

Uttarakhand

On 31.07.2014 at about 0200 hrs, cloud burst occurred at vill Nauthan ,Tehsil- Ghanshyali Distt-Tehri(Uttarakhand). The place is situated approx. 77 Kms from district HQ Tehri. As per information received from DGP Control Room the death toll in above said incident reached to 06. So far 05 dead bodies have been retrieved. Total 12 House damaged & 12 Cattle killed. 10. SAR teams, Police, CISF personnel are inducted for rescue and relief operation.

Pune: Three days after Ambegaon village in Maharashtra's Pune district witnessed the state's worst ever landslide, over 120 people are still feared trapped in debris.
Rescue operations are likely to gather momentum on Friday with some relief from rains. The death toll rose to 56 on Friday even as rescue teams fought unfavourable weather conditions. Nine people have been injured and eight people were pulled out alive by the rescue teams.

The rescue operation at the spot has been hampered due to heavy rainfall, slime mud and increasing traffic. NDRF Jawans are struggling hard to pull out survivors facing many hurdles.

At least 63 people are now confirmed dead in the tragedy amid fears that the toll may go up substantially, while around 100 trapped in a landslide near Bhimashankar in Pune district that took place on Wednesday. The landslide took place early in the morning in Malin village in Ambegaon tehsil of Pune due to heavy rainfall. The village is just 10 kilometres from Bhimashankar Jyotirling Temple in Ambegaon Taluka and 70 kilometres from Pune city. Rescue operations have started and many bodies have so far been extracted from under the debris by team of National Disaster Response Force.

On 02.08.2014 at about 0340 hrs a very huge landslide in the upper reaches of Sun Koshi River in Sundhupal chowk district in Nepal which has created an artificial Dam and a water reservoir comprising about 22 lakhs cubic meters. Any uncontrolled release of water would lead to flood situation downstream in Nepal and thereafter in Bihar, India. People residing in surrounding areas asked to evacuate; Water Resources Disaster Management alerted. 14 NDRF Bns and 04 SDRF Bns have been deployed in various area of Bihar. 117 relief camp have been established and approximately 44,200 people accommodated in it. There is no significant change in the water levels.

Additional Mobile medical camps with 33 ambulances and 127 Doctors are deputed for providing medical aid in the districts.

Odisha floods kill 35, affect 1.8 million

BHUBANESWAR: The floods triggered by heavy rains in the past week have affected nearly 1.8 million people in Odisha with the death toll rising to 35, an official said on Thursday.

Eight more deaths were reported from 24 of the state's 30 districts, taking the number of those killed in rain-and flood-related incidents since July to 35, a revenue and disaster management department official told IANS.

Pune landslide: Villagers' rehab to be discussed on Sunday

PUNE: Residents of Malin will meet state tribal minister Madhukar Pichad on Sunday to discuss the sites available for rehabilitation of villagers who are staying in a government school close by since the day a deadly landslide engulfed almost all the houses killing 151 people and displacing many more.

Meanwhile, the villagers have decided to organize a collective 10th day ritual on Sunday for the dead. District administration officials said the survivors will be shifted to a safe place as the village is no longer safe to live.

At least 14 persons were killed in separate incidents of cloudburst in various parts of Uttarakhand?s Pauri district on Friday. Reports reaching the emergency operation centre at Pauri said heavy rainfall was witnessed across Pauri district.
On being contacted, DM Pauri C S Bhatt confirmed the report about cloudbursts claiming at least 14 lives in his district. ?We have sent rescue teams to all the sites which faced disaster today. NDRF teams have also reached such sites,? he added.

As per the Met department?s latest prediction, heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places especially in Nainital and Pithoragarh in the next 12 hours beginning from 16th August morning.

Of the 71,178 persons still marooned, 67,263 belong to Puri where flood water inundated 59 villages, Deputy Relief Commissioner Prabhat Mohapatra said.

Four died as huge flow of water causing floods made a three storey building collapse in India?s eastern province of Bihar on August 15 (Friday).

Water released from a dam in the neighbouring state Jharkhand along with incessant heavy rains heightened the possibility of floods and lead to the disaster in Nalanda district of Bihar.

According to natives, huge waterflow hit the building at night, which caused the damage and made it fall.

LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: More than three lakh people in seven Uttar Pradesh districts along the terai were hit by swirling river waters by Saturday afternoon, with a cloudburst in Nepal, release of waters from its barrages, and heavy rain in the catchment area of the Himalayan rivers being the foremost cause of people's misery. District administrations of Bahraich and Lakhimpuri Kheri said around 300 people are missing, with fears being expressed that they might have got swept away.

Nearly 500 villages in Bahraich, Shrawasti, and Lakhimpur Kheri are hit, mostly by a swollen Rapti, with Ghaghara, another perennial trans-boundary river originating on the Tibetan plateau near Lake Mansarovar, flowing above the danger mark in Barabanki, Siddharth Nagar and Faizabad.

#Rajasthan Amid the torrential rains that continue to lash several parts of the state, Met department has predicted heavy rainfall for the the next 48-72 hours.
There's now a flood-like situation in the villages of Bhilwara and Bundi as well. Many villages in parts of Beawar, Ajmer and Tonk have been put on a high alert.
On Monday, 12 people lost their lives in the rain-related incidents. The deceased included seven members of a family who died in a house collapse at Kalmanda village in Baran. Two children died in a separate incident in Lalsot.

One person dies as incessant rain continues in Arunachal Pradesh

One person died in a landslide as incessant rains for the past couple of days have wrecked havoc in several parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

A driver and his helper skidded down for about 20-30 meters when a chunk of earth fell on them on Tuesday. While the driver survived, the helper died on the spot, a press release by Border Road Task Force (BRTF) said on Thursday. The incident occurred when they were clearing the debris between Mebo and Silluk village in East Siang district, it said.

Assam flood situation turns grim, claims one life

TEZPUR/KAZIRANGA: The flood situation in Assam on Saturday turned grim claiming the life of a child as the Brahmaputra and its tributaries inundated vast tracts of land in upper Assam and in the Kaziranga National Park following incessant rainfall in the catchment areas.

The flood situation turned critical in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts with a minor boy being washed away by the flood water in Naoboicha area of Lakhimpur.

LUCKNOW: Twenty-eight people have died so far in Uttar Pradesh in floods which have hit the state with several rivers flowing above the danger mark and posing a threat to more than 1,000 villages in the affected districts.

"Floods have so far claimed 28 lives with nine districts of the state being affected by the crisis. Relief and rescue operations have been launched (in these areas). In all, around 1,000 to 1,500 villages have been affected by the floods," chief secretary Alok Ranjan told reporters here.

PATNA: At least 12 people have been killed and about four lakh people hit by flood in 10 Bihar districts following three days of incessant rain. Crops worth Rs 2.77 crore have been damaged, officials said.

Nalanda was the worst hit district, with several villages remaining inundated. Five people were killed in a wall collapse and two were swept away in the floodwaters on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Two deaths were reported under Laheri police station area in the district on Sunday. Two people were killed in Katara block of Muzaffarpur district, while one was drowned in Kosi after jumping from a boat in Chausa block of Madhepura district. According to disaster management department (DMD) officials, two persons were swept away in Saharsa on Sunday.

Heavy rain forecast for 48 hours

Aug. 17: North Bengal and adjoining Sikkim may receive heavy rain or thundershower in the next 48 hours, the Met office said today. The weather condition is because of an active Southwest monsoon and the formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the region, sources said.

The forecast came at a time the state irrigation department has sounded a red alert in the unprotected areas along the Fulahar river in Malda.

The river has flooded at least 15 villages in Harishchandrapur and Ratua blocks affecting over 10,000 people.

Assam floods still grim, Kaziranga park affected

JORHAT: The flood situation in the state remained grim, with the death toll rising to three on Sunday.

Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts in northern Assam are the worst affected with the water level in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger mark.

A 25-year-old youth in Lakhimpur was killed on Sunday, taking the casualty to three in the district. "A man at Nauboicha in Lakhimpur died in floods on Sunday. With this, the total number of casualty has gone up to three in the district during floods," said Lakhimpur deputy commissioner Gaurav Bothra.

Guwahati, August 17: The flood situation in the State remained unchanged today, with reports of fresh areas being inundated by overflowing rivers in as many as 14 districts affecting surface communication at several places.

One more body was found in the Ranganadi river in Diju village of Lakhimpur district, taking the death toll in the district to four. Over a dozen houses were damaged in the village today.

UP, Bihar floods toll climbs to 80

Lucknow: The death tolls from floods in UP and Bihar has reached 80 on Tuesday. UP state Irrigation Minister Shivpal Yadav did an aerial survey in flood-affected areas in Bahraich, Shravasti and Balrampur districts and has issued directives to the officials.

The toll alone in Uttar Pradesh floods increased to 63, with reports of 15 more deaths in the state where several rivers breached their embankments, making the situation grim in flood-affected areas.

And in Bihar, with eight more deaths in the last 24 hours, the toll in floods has risen to 17, Sunil Kumar, an official of the state disaster management department said.

Uttar Pradesh

The 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh namely Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Lakhimpur Khiri, Barabanki, Sitapur, Azamgarh, Faizabad have been reported to be affected due to swirling river water, release of water from Nepal and heavy rainfall in the catchment area.

Approximately 861 villages in 10 districts and 8.10 Lakhs people have been affected. Reportedly 49 persons have so far lost the lives. So far about 40944 people have been rescued to safer places. In all 78 relief posts and 47 relief camps have been set up and necessary assistance including medical aid are being provided. Approximately 114 boats have been brought in service for rescue operations. 02 MI 17 Helicopters are being used for rescue and relief operations in district Bahraich.

Due to sudden cloud burst few villages in Muzaffarnagar are also effected as heavy rainfall has swollen the rivers Ganga and Solani in the area.

Water levels are falling over river Rapti at Balrampur, water level in river Ghaghra at Ayodhya is on a rising trend but is less below the previous HFL.

Uttarakhand

So far death toll has risen to 56 while 09 others are injured in separate incidents. Substantial damage/loss to the property and animal stock has been reported. Rain fall has stopped. Rescue & relief operation continues at various places though hampered due to continuous rain.

Bihar

08 lives have been lost in Bihar in the flood so far. The State Govt. has requested for assistance of the Army for dismantling of old bridge near Patna and for construction of a temporary bridge.

The UP CM also said that the Centre must announce a compensation to the flood victims of UP.
