Aizawl, Jan 5 (PTI) One person died and at least 47 people have been infected with suspected scrub typhus virus at Phullen village in Aizawl district, Health department officials said today.

Nodal officer of the State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma, who visited Phullen village yesterday said the spread of the disease has been contained and the patients were given medical treatment.

Phullen village is about 125 kilometre north-east of the state capital.

Cases reported from Village Phullen. State RRT investigated
the outbreak. Since August 2017 to January 2018, a total of 81
cases and 1 death were reported from the affected area. A total
of 4 villages were affected; Village Phullen (54 cases & 1
death), Thanglailung (5 cases), Luangpawn (20 cases) and
Zawngin (2 cases). An increase in number of cases was
observed in the month of December 2017 (40 cases, December
17 and 10 cases in Jan 2018). Eschar manifestation were not
reportedly observed among the cases. Environmental studies
were conducted and rodent infestations were observed in the
surveyed area. All cases were treated and cases were followed
up at their houses. All the 81 samples were tested by Rapid Test
kits (SD Bioline, Tsutsugamushi kit). Health awareness

A rare bacterial infection spread through insect bites can kill through mutliple-organ failure and is on the rise in India.

New Delhi: One of the Indian Army?s senior-most serving officers, Lt Gen P.S. Jaggi, AVSM, passed away in Delhi on Tuesday.

As condolences for the general poured in from defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Army chief General Bipin Rawat, sources revealed that he had contracted a bacterial infection through an insect bite which resulted in multiple organ failure.

The illness, known as Scrub Typhus, is considered to be a rare disease in the country and rarer in the army, an army hospital official said .

Lt. Gen Jaggi had been in the ICU for the last two weeks.

Scrub checkfus probe in district hospital

After the BRD Medical College, scrub checkfasts will be examined in the Pathology of the District Hospital. This test requires elizabeth machine. The hospital already has an alias machine. Another machine is demanded. Since the start of this facility, samples of patients will not be sent to BRD.

Eastern UP battles encephalitis outbreaks every year. Doctors of ICMR and BRD Medical College have been named as scrub toys for the last two years due to research in encephalitis. In view of this, the government decided to launch this investigation in the district hospital after the BRD. Starting this probe, it will help in ascertaining the cause of the disease in AES patients, and it will also be easy to treat them.

Demand for cartage from the government has been sought for this investigation to be started in the district hospital. SIC Dr. RK Gupta said that the preparation of scrub typhus in AES patients in the Pathology of District Hospital is ready to start soon. In order to begin this investigation in the hospital, a demand for carpet has been sought.

District Hospital has got another Elijah Reader machine. There was just an alias reader machine in the hospital. With two machines, the probability of doubling will be doubled. The Elijah Reader machine identifies diseases by patient serum. Not only does it take less time, but the investigation report is also accurate.

Scrub Typhus passes foot, 152 patients arrive at the hospital

Shimla, State Bureau. In the state of rainy season, scrub typhus fever has started spreading in the state. There are 152 patients coming to the hospital with scratched typhus fever across the state. Health Department has issued statistics till July 18.


If the officials of the department believe that the fleet of scrub typhus fever is more vulnerable in the rain. By October, the risk of scrubs will be high. A patient has died from scrub typhus in the state. In this year, the highest number of 57 cases of scrub typhus being found in District Bilaspur has been reported.

Negligence can be heavy on life

Scrub typhus fever may be irritating to the patient. According to doctors, scrub typhus fever begins to show effect in three days only. If not taken medication during the three days of having a fever, then scrub typhus damages the kidneys and liver in the body. It can also cause death of the patient.


During this season the risk of scratch typhus increases. Guidelines have been issued to the hospitals. Its medicines have also been provided to the sub-health centers.

Six persons of Hadauti region have died of scrub typhus in a week?s time. Three affected by the disease were from Bundi, two from Jhalawar and one from Kota. The test reports of the infected arrived after their death. The tests were conducted during treatment and the reports arrived on August 23 evening.

Anita (25) and Jagannath (50) of Jhalawar died on August 19. Similarly, Gopal Bai (76) of Kota died on August 18 during treatment.

NCDC team visits GMCH
A team from National Communicable Diseases Centre also visited Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)
on Thursday. Information about initial symptoms, trend of spread of disease, if any, condition of the patients etc is being studied by the team. The data may be useful in carrying out research and effective planning to control the diseases.

The scrub typhus epidemic has taken another toll in Nagpur Division on Thursday. The zoonotic epidemic, which is spreading fast has, so far, taken life of seven persons undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The number of patients admitted with high fever in critical condition are being referred to GMCH in large number.

After the dengue virus, bacterial scrub typhus disease, seen in Nagpur for the first time, is taking its toll on residents of the city and surrounding areas. Around 90 cases have been reported so far, out of which 15 people have died over the last one week and another 15 are battling for their lives.

From the around 90 persons diagnosed with the disease, the toll rose to 15 on Friday evening with one patient at the government medical college and hospital succumbing while 70 are under treatment there and some private hospitals. Most of the patients are in the age group of 30 to 45.

According to the medical college and hospital, over 60 affected people are admitted there out of which 15 are on ventilators and battling for their lives. The patient who died on Friday evening was identified as Madhukar Pudke of Nandanwan area of east Nagpur.

Another serious bacteria, a scrubber typhus, has been bumped into Maharashtra. Because of this, 16 people lost their lives within a week. Tollywood and Telugu people are already suffering from infectious diseases, and malnourished bacteria in the neighboring Maharashtra are causing more disturbance. About 16 people die from scrubs, and another 75 hospitals are being treated. The mirror is being mirrored.

A bacterium called auriansia shuchegsis enters the human body through a type of insect stool. This causes the scrub typhus fever. It can include fever, swelling and rash on the skin. This will lose lives if it is not treated at the right time. The bacteria has been hit by 93 people in the last week of a worm. Of these, 16 people were killed and another 15 were in critical condition. The doctors confirmed Amal Baburam Mandal, a teenager from Gadchiroli district, who died on Saturday.

All those infected with bacteria have been shifted to Government Medical College Hospital in Nagpur. Speaking at the Nagpur Hospital, Dr. Abhimanyu said, "We are taking steps to curb the scrub-typhus disease. He said that people from states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, who are not only Maharastra, are hospitalized with symptoms. Dengue expresses confidence that the disease will be effective. This bacterium is in the Nagpur District. Nine people died in this district.

43 cases of scrub typhus in Mandi

After dengue, the rise in the cases of scrub typhus in Mandi district has now set alarm bells ringing for the health authorities. As of now, as many as 43 cases have been reported.

Sources said the Mandi zonal hospital lacked screening facility and test kits to detect the virus. Owing to this, patients are not receiving timely treatment.

They added that the hospital authorities were already struggling hard to check dengue outbreak in the district. As many as 236 dengue cases had been reported so far. Now the outbreak of scrub typhus had aggravated the situation for the health authorities

Objective: To investigate the distribution and clinical profile of scrub typhus infection among
children with acute febrile illness in Odisha. Methods: Children (<15 y) presenting with acute
fever (>5 days) in 4 agro-climatic zones from June to November 2017 were evaluated.
Patients were screened for malaria, leptospira, dengue, typhoid and scrub typhus. Scrub
typhus was confirmed by IgM ELISA and PCR. Results: Out of 413 cases examined, 48.7%
were positive for scrub typhus, and 5.5% of them developed systemic complications. Eschar
was found in 17.9% of cases. Five days treatment of Doxycycline and/or Azithromycin was
clinically effective against scrub typhus. Conclusion: Our study highlights that scrub typhus
is one of the causes of high morbidity in children during rainy months in Odisha.

Scrub Typhus in Himachal Pradesh has claimed five lives till now as one more person suffering from the bacterial disease died at Indra Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, on August 14.

The deceased was identified as Jwala Das, 73, a resident of Thunag of Mandi district. He was admitted at IGMC on July 31.

The state has witnessed an outbreak in Scrub Typhus, also known as World War II fever that occurs mostly during the monsoon season through a mite's bite. This year, Scrub Typhus has killed two people from Mandi district and three people from Shimla district while in 2018 at least 21 deaths occurred.

Earlier, two women, one from Mandi and other from Shimla district were reported dead on July 26 while another woman from Sunni died in IGMC on August 2. An eight-year-old boy from Shimla district also died of Scrub Typhus on August 5.


This year, as many as 3,651 people have been tested for Scrub Typhus in Himachal out of 291 people have been found positive.
