BARIPADA:Panic gripped the residents of Mahisiduba village following the death of two minor girls in the last two days. Around 100 people in the village in Mayurbhanj district are suffering from fever and body ache.

While they claimed that the deaths were a result of witchcraft and organised a special puja on Saturday, health officials suspected that the girls died of malaria.

Subhadra Hansdah (4), daughter of Gopal Hansdah, and Bali Murmu (2), daughter of Rabindra Murmu, suffered from fever on Wednesday. Though the village Anganwadi worker Parvati Tudu advised them to take the girls to Kaptipada community health centre (CHC), their parents did not agree due to poor financial condition.
