India has found one Ebola virus carrying suspect and quarantined five others Tuesday night, said health officials Wednesday.

Over 100 Indians arrived in the country on different flights from Liberia Tuesday night. Seventy were screened in Mumbai and 17 in Delhi.

The time frame seems to be different. The suspected cases in this thread were reported to have been detained last night which is many hours later. ?

NEW DELHI: The enormity of the Ebola outbreak hit home on Tuesday as 112 Indians and four Nepalese arrived in the country on different flights from Liberia. This West African country has seen over 600 deaths so far and is the worst affected. Till late in the night, 88 people had arrived - 71 in Mumbai and 17 in Delhi. More were on their way on different commercial flights.

Health ministry sources said of the 17 passengers who arrived at the Delhi airport, one person has been found to have fever and sore throat which is associated with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) besides other diseases. "The passenger suspected for EVD has been quarantined at the Airport Health Organisation (APHO), a specialized health centre run by the health ministry to screen international passengers for deadly diseases. We have sent the passenger's blood sample for test," said a ministry official.

At least six others, including two women and a child, were taken to APHO for detailed health screening and officials later claimed they did not have any symptoms of the disease. In addition, five passengers from routine flights from the affected countries - Sierra Leone, Republic of Guinea and Nigeria - with symptoms of fever have been quarantined at the isolation facility at Delhi airport, said health ministry sources.

Seventeen Indians ? part of a delegation of Afcons employees ? who arrived in the capital from Liberia on Tuesday were declared free of the Ebola virus after being screened at the Delhi airport, except one, who had fever and sore throat. He has been isolated in a quarantine-cum-isolation facility at the Delhi airport.
The delegation comprises 112 Indians and four Nepal nationals, many of who flew to different states.

821 passengers being tracked for Ebola Virus Disease

45 passengers enrolled for follow up today through State IDSP units

The two passengers (a doctor and a physiotherapist), who were admitted in Dr RML Hospital earlier for further treatment after being tested negative for Ebola, have responded to Anti- Malarial treatment and are afebrile now. One of them has now been discharged.

M/s Afcons and International SOS have brought back 113 passengers (including 02 Nepalese Nationals) from Liberia to India. 96 passengers have landed in Mumbai and another 17, in Delhi. The passengers who landed in Delhi have also been taken to Mumbai by M/s Afcons. They have all been screened and found healthy except for one passenger, who had fever and sore throat. He has been discharged from quarantine cum isolation facility at Delhi Airport after testing negative for EVD.

The State Governments have been requested to ensure tracking and monitoring of these passengers. These passengers would be attached to the local health facility (CHC/ PHC/Government Hospital) and local authority would ensure that they would follow up these passengers on day to day basis for one month.

All the 05 passengers who travelled from affected countries and quarantined at isolation facility at Delhi Airport yesterday have been tested negative for EVD and released from this facility.

During past 24 hours, 148 passengers from the affected countries have arrived at the Airports of Mumbai (30), Delhi (92), Kochi (8), Bangalore (15) and Chennai (3). One passenger travelling from Nigeria has been found symptomatic and quarantined at isolation facility at Delhi airport. Her report is awaited.

The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) is tracking such passengers, the details of which are provided to them by the Airport Health Organization. Today, 45 passengers were enrolled for follow up in their respective States through State IDSP units.

As on date, a cumulative number of 821 passengers are being tracked. Most of them are in the States of Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
