India - Manipur: Mysterious disease outbreak 41 hospitalized

After the flood, Manipur has been struck with the spread of vector-borne and other diseases particularly in Imphal Valley and Churachandpur district, a state Health department official said.
On Saturday, there were reports of an outbreak of an unknown disease in the interior parts of Churachandpur district, particularly Henglep village, where around 41 people had fallen ill, most of them children.
Most of the affected persons were rushed to the district hospital for treatments, officials said.
The state Health department has been hectically engaging in combating outbreak of dreaded diseases like Swine Flu (H1N1), Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and Scrub Typhus following the flood in Manipur.
Confirming the outbreak, state Health and Family Welfare minister L Jayentakumar informed the state Assembly that the government has despatched medical officers to the affected areas.
Responding to a calling attention motion raised by Congress MLA, K Ranjit, Jayantakumar said the outbreak in Henglep was considered as an extraordinary case.
One of the major hurdle faced by medical teams to reach out to the affected villages was due to the road condition coupled with landslides, he informed the house.

Imphal, July 29 2017: The State health department is doing all it can as soon as it received report of an unknown disease in certain areas of Churachandpur district.

Replying to a calling attention motion moved by MLA K Ranjit during the ongoing State Assembly Session today, Health Minister L Jayantakumar said that as the case of Henglep where an unknown disease is spreading the Health Department consider it as extraordinary cases and already two doctors had been assigned on interim basis.

Moreover, Medical team had already been sent to the affected villages but as the road conditions are too bad and as the vehicles the medics who were rushing could not reached the villages due to landslide they are doing all it can to fight the disease, Jayantakumar added.

"The road condition is so bad that our medical team could not reached the villages and we cannot repaired it immediately so the state government will discuss on whether helicopter can be utilized for transportation of the medical team and the medicines if necessary", The Health Minister said.

Jayantakumar further added that so far 2 cases of suspected H1 N1 have been died when their blood samples are being sent for confirmation.

[h=1]Manipur Govt Monitoring Outbreak of H1N1 Virus: Health Minister[/h] In the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly session, State Health Minister L.Jayentakumar on Saturday has told the House that the Health department is fully concerned and monitoring the suspected outbreak of H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus in Henglep Sub-division in Churachandpur district. He said that two doctors have been posted at Henglep Sub-Division.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion raised by Opposition MAL K Ranjit Singh regarding the suspected outbreak of H1N1 virus in Henglep Sub-Division, the Minister said the government is fully concerned with the suspected outbreak. He said altogether 41 individuals with suspected cases of H1N1 including 31 children have reached Churachandpur District Hospital and have been placed under medical observation.

Observing that due to the incessant rain in the State in recent times, road communication has been badly hit in Henglep Sub-division, the Minister said at present another 50 individuals with suspected cases of H1N1 are still in Henglep Sub-division. He further said that the government is also considering feasibility of airlifting the individuals, so that they could be brought under proper medical observation.
Regarding declaration of the outbreak to be epidemic, the Minister said declaring the outbreak epidemic at this juncture could create undue panic among the people. He continued the government is fully prepared and have enough stock of medicines to combat any outbreak of the H1N1 in the State.

30 medical teams tasked fight Henglep crisis

Chief minister N. Biren Singh has said that state government has set up three check posts with medical surveillance teams at Jiribam, Moreh and Beihang to check people entering the state from today in wake of the unknown pandemic gripping Churachandpur district.

Altogether 100 villagers from different villages in remote Henglep constituency have been evacuated yesterday and presently sheltered at the Churachandpur youth hostel, he said adding that Rs. 1 lakh was sanctioned to Henglep MLA, TT Haokip as financial assistance.

The chief minister further said that another two trucks have been dispatched to collect another 80 villagers.

Only three suspected cases including two dengue and one swine flu cases have been reportedly detected from samples collected from affected villagers of Henglep.

Imphal, August 06 2017: Muslim Council Manipur (MCM) has drawn the attention of the Government over the reported outbreak of 'unknown disease' which reportedly spread at Borayangbi Thongmakha Ward No 3. Addressing a press meet at Hatta yesterday, MCM secretary general Haji Arafat Ali said that the unknown epidemic has reportedly infected about 50 people at Borayangbi Thong Makha Ward No 3 .

He said that those affected by the disease have developed smallpox-like symptoms, fever and cough .
