Koylancl but fatal disease, is threatened by avian Influenja. Bengal did not limit Koylancl Sube ten adjoining districts of the disease risk. West Bengal in patients infected with this fatal disease, which found the Department of Health, including the Bengal Dhanbad limit ten districts in the adjoining state of high alert has been issued. इ All these districts and DC by sending a message to the civil surgeon - the disease in the districts to deal with the necessary arrangements have been directed to.
State Health Secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Deputy to the sensitive districts in a letter that in Bengal, with the Asom Influenja avian patients were found. The caution is necessary in Jharkhand.
Bird flu coming into contact with birds infected with the possibility of the spread of the disease in human lives. In view of this sensitive districts in the district hospitals to deal with the emergency ward Aisoleshn and doctors for the treatment of the disease and mercury to train medical staff, he has directed.
According to information from the adjoining Bengal due to the disease for the Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamtadha, Dumka, Sahebganj Border, including ten from the adjoining districts have been declared sensitive. On receiving information from that Department, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has deputed a Central Team to assist the State Government in containment operations.

Since the first notification of Avian Influenza in Assam on 27.11.2008, 17 other epicenters, spread over eight districts have been notified.

The last notification was on 24.12.2008.

For the past eight days no new centres have been notified.

So far a total of 462,670 birds have been culled.

A total of 455 Animal Health workers, who were deployed for the culling activity are on Chemoprophylaxis.

The situation is being monitored on a daily basis.

There is no suspect case of human avian influenza.

GUWAHATI, India - Medical workers were going door-to-door to look for people with symptoms of avian influenza in northeast India Friday as the infection in birds spread further, officials said.

So far, no human cases of infection of the deadly H5N1 virus have been reported in the affected Assam state, but authorities stepped up a health drive after 150 people developed some symptoms of the infection.

"About 150 people were treated for fever and upper respiratory tract infections in bird flu-hit areas. We have put the patients in isolation," senior health official Parthajyoti Gogoi told AFP.

Bird flu was ruled out in all cases, the official said.

The virus has spread in the past two weeks across six Assam districts, where an estimated 300,000 people live in the affected areas.

More than 250,000 poultry have been slaughtered so far and an estimated 150,000 more have been ordered to be killed.

The government was "worried" about the infection spreading to humans, as authorities may not be able to cope, local health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The sale of poultry and poultry products has been banned in most parts of the state.

India reported its worst outbreak of bird flu early this year in the eastern state of West Bengal.

The WHO says the deadly H5N1 strain has killed nearly 250 people, mostly in Southeast Asia, since 2003.

- 40,000 capsules of Tamiflu, 12,000 surgical masks, 1200 personal protective equipments, 400 N-95 masks, 50 bottles of tamiflu syrup and 8 ventilators have been supplied by MoHFW.
- Sufficient anti-viral drugs and PPE are in stock with the State Government.


-- Communication

? Messages to create public awareness are being telecast/ broadcast in local channels and AIR.
? Local campaign such as miking and interpersonal communication is followed in all epicenters.


-- Monitoring

? The situation is being monitored on a daily basis.

India Culls More Than 524,000 Birds After Avian Flu Outbreak

India culled more than 524,000 birds in West Bengal and Assam states to contain an outbreak of avian flu among poultry, the government said.


About 290 health workers are conducting house-to-house inspections in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, where 41,906 birds have been culled so far, according to an e-mailed statement from New Delhi. The government confirmed an outbreak of the flu in the district on Jan. 6.

In the northeastern state of Assam, avian flu has spread to eight districts since November and 772 health workers are monitoring the outbreak, according to the statement. The Health Ministry has supplied 40,000 capsules of Tamiflu, 12,000 surgical masks and protective equipment for 1,200 personnel.

More than 483,000 birds have been culled in Assam and ?sufficient anti-viral drugs are in stock with the state government,? according to the statement. No human case of bird flu have been reported so far, it said.

India has killed millions of fowl in the past three years following outbreaks of avian flu. The virus hasn?t become more dangerous to humans and occasional deaths from the disease shouldn?t be cause for alarm, Bernard Vallat, who heads the World Organization for Animal Health, said on Jan. 7.

The World Health Organization began tracking the H5N1 virus in humans after three fatal cases were reported in Vietnam in 2003, prompting scientists to warn of a potential global outbreak.

India on Sept. 24 banned imports of some livestock and their products from nations affected by avian flu to prevent a fresh outbreak of the virus.
