Three dead, 10 down with unknown disease
RAIGANJ, June 16: Three children aged between one and six died of an unknown fever at Gopalpur, Gayeshpur and Rasakhoa villages under the Karandighi police station in North Dinajpur district in the past two days.
Fifty more children of the region have been afflicted by the same disease.
While majority of the affected children are undergoing treatment at home, some have been admitted to the Karandighi and Raiganj hospitals. The outbreak has caused panic in the area as the physicians have not been able to detect the disease yet.
A health team guided by one deputy chief medical officer of health, North Dinajpur Dr Dilip Dey and one child specialist of Raiganj district hospital Dr Ashit Banarjee visited the affected areas.
The deputy CMOH Dr Dey said: ?The symptoms of the disease have been studied. We suspect the children died of encephalitis. The guardians of the affected children have been asked to admit the children either at Karandighi hospital or a Raignaj district hospital. The affected children are now being treated at the Karandighi and Raiganj hospitals.? The chief medical officer of health Dr SS Shahoo said: "No fresh attack was reported this morning.? n SNS
