Dimapur, July 19: The Japanese Encephalitis (JE) virus has claimed the life of a woman in Dimapur, according to a late report from the Health department on Friday.

The information was given by the programme officer of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Dr. I Talitemsula Jamir.

While talking to Eastern Mirror she said, ?Till date, out of 30 suspected cases, nine were detected positive.? One of them died in a hospital in Guwahati after being initially admitted to Eden Medical Centre in Dimapur.

According to her, the condition of some of the patients was not very good.

IMPHAL, 19th Jul: In the wake of the death of a person due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and hospitalisation of as many as 15 patients in the past few days, the role that climate change plays in the regular outbreak of the killer vector-borne disease in Manipur has come to the fore once again.
Confirming the first official fatality from Japanese Encephalitis in the state this year, this time a young girl of 4 years old from Senapati District, State Malaria Officer Dr Thangpa Serto informed that 15 other patients are also currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the state.

As per reports received from the state?s malaria department, seven suspected JE cases were received from Bishnupur district out of which one has been confirmed to JE. Two JE cases have been confirmed when samples of same number received from Chandel district were tested, the report said, adding that one person from Churachandpur district is a confirmed case of JE out of 12 samples tested. Sources, however, informed that the total number of JE cases in the district has risen to eight with five fresh cases confirmed on Friday.
While Imphal East district is relatively free from the dreaded disease as none of the 11 samples was positive, two samples from Imphal West district were found to be positive out of 17 suspected cases. JE cases confirmed in other districts include three in Senapati district (out of 8 samples), five in Thoubal district (out of nine) and one in Ukhrul district out of two samples.

Dengue found in three AES patients

Dengue has been confirmed in three patients suffering from acute encephalitis syndrome (AES).
