Over 50 Children Have Died of Suspected Japanese Encephalitis in Bihar
The state health department has denied AES as the cause of deaths, saying the reason for the fatalities was hypoglycaemia due to high heat and dehydration.

Patna: In the last nine days, several children have died in North Bihar of suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). On Monday alone, about 20 children reportedly died, while three deaths were reported early Tuesday in Muzaffarpur town hospitals. As per reports, five five children died in two villages -- Harvanshpur Paschim and Khirkhaua under Bhagwanpur police station in Vaishali district -- in last the 24 hours due to symptoms similar to AES after being admitted to hospital.
As helpless parents look on, dozens of children are still battling for their lives with symptoms similar to AES and are undergoing treatment at two hospitals in Muzaffarpur. So far, the disease has already claimed the lives of 53 children, but the state government is playing these deaths down by claiming that these were due to hypoglycaemia.

State Minister of State Ashwani Chaube - Death due to Insepheitis due to negligence of officials
Posted by: Razia Ansarion: June 11, 2019
Central Desk: Like every year, the widespread widespread death of children in North Bihar is increasing in the summer this year. So far 43 children have died. Whereas, 110 are sick. Only 38 children have died from encephalitis alone in SKMCH of Muzaffarpur alone.
The Bihar government is proving to be futile in preventing this year's disease. Responsible, it seems to be flowing away. And are blaming others. Neglectful statements of leaders and ministers are showing their insensitivity.
Ashwini Choubey's strange statement
The latest statement is that of Union Health Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey who came to Patna to attend a program in IGIMS. They said, the death of children in Muzaffarpur is a tragedy. Due to the election, the officers were busy in the election, due to which there was lack of awareness. If the Bihar government seeks help from the central government, the central government will give full help.
Mangal Pandey also had a broom
Earlier, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that death of 11 children has been confirmed so far, but no child has died from AES in Encephalitis so far. He said that 10 children died from hypoglycemia, while one child died from Japanese encephalitis.

Muzaffarpur Civil Surgeon Dr Shailendra Prasad Singh said they were facing a shortage of infrastructural facilities. All three PICU wards are full of patients so ICU ward is in use. He further added, we are working with makeshift wards and ICU in treating kids at Primary Health Centre (PHCs). When asked to confirm if their is an AES outbreak, he said there is no research at the district or state level in this regard.
