Girl?s death sparks protest in village

A sixteen-year-old girl of Koppu village near here is suspected to have died of acute encephalitis (brain fever) on Saturday.

Praveena alias Monisha, who was studying Plus One in a school, had received treatment at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) for high fever a few days ago.

Since there was no improvement in her health, she was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) here on Thursday. She did not respond to treatment and died on Saturday.

Though her relatives and friends claimed that she died of dengue, health officials said she died due to acute brain fever.

At least four persons have died of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Meghalaya in the past one month, prompting the state government to monitor the situation closely, officials said today.

Since July 7, at least 15 suspected cases were kept under observation at the Institute, but only four were tested positive for JE, Dr Phukan said.

As of today, six persons tested positive for JE and were undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the state, health services director Dr A Wankhar said.

GUWAHATI: A total of 565 Japanese Encephalitis positive cases being reported so far from across the state this year. The maximum number of positive cases were also reported from most of the districts in upper Assam and a few of the districts there are flood ravaged and prone to severe floods.

Purvanchal has been wreaking havoc in the Inseflaitis. BRD Medical College in the last 24 hours, while 13 patients were recruited, were killed. Nehru Hospital, 98 patients are being treated. Medical College from January this year so far, of which 105 have been admitted so far 484 patients have died.

Japanese Encephalitis case detected, official confirmation awaited

IMPHAL, August 25: Close on the heels of the recent devastating flood which had affected both the hill and valley districts of the State, a 12-year-old has been confirmed positive for Japanese Encephalitis today.

According to reliable sources, a young girl from Tamenglong and presently staying in a boarding school at Irom Meijrao has been diagonised positive with Japanese Encephalitis, informed the source.

On August 23, after three individuals including the girl showed symptoms of Japanese Encephalitis, their blood samples were collected and tested at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, according to the source.

The test results came out today and of the three, two samples were found to be negative, while the third turned out to be positive, informed the source.

Swine flu returns, one tests positive in Indore

INDORE: Swine flu made a return as on Wednesday as sample of a 40-year-old male was found positive. Along with this samples of 7-year-old girl, resident of Shanti Nagar was tested positive for Japanese encephalitis. Following district health department has issued an alert for swine flu and vector-borne diseases.

It is the first positive case of swine flu this season and the patient is said to be critical. Similarly, it is the first case of the deadly vector borne disease of Japanese encephalitis in the state.

Superintendent of Chacha Nehru Hospital Dr Sharad Thora said, "The girl is in coma-like condition and is under sustained observation. Elder people and children are more prone to this disease and the cases of vector borne diseases are increasing these days."

Family takes home Japanese Encephalitis infected boy for traditional medication
IMPHAL, August 26: Family members of a 12-year old boy who was diagnosed with the Japanese Encephalitis have taken him back from the JNIMS Paediatrics Ward informing hospital authorities that they will try traditional healing, informed an official of the hospital.

The astounding declaration was made by the official when IFP tried to visit the young boy today.

It may be mentioned that the IFP had reported on its August 24 edition that blood samples of a 12-year-old girl has tested positive of Japanese Encephalitis.

However, the official confirmed that it is a boy who has been tested positive and not a girl as reported earlier.

more cases reported in 30th week ending on 26th July 2015 from 05districts, namely
Papumpare Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, East Kameng and East Siang. District RRT
investigated the outbreak. Majority of cases reported from Papumpare, Lower Subansiri and
Upper Subansiri. Active case search done in the community.16 Serum sample were tested
at DPL Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun; out of which 09 samples were found to be
positive for JE IgM NIV Mac ELISA and 03 samples were found to be equivocal. One
female child aged 7.5 years from Lower Subansiri died due to the condition. All cases
treated symptomatically. Source reduction activities undertaken. Health education
regarding personal protection given.

condition. All cases treated symptomatically. Source reduction activities were
undertaken. Health education given
