Ebola: Six 'high risk' passengers from W Africa quarantined

Six people deemed "high risk" Ebola suspects were today admitted to a quarantine facility at Delhi airport, health ministry said today.

The suspects were among 181 passengers who arrived in India from the affected western African countries.

As of today, the ministry said, as many as 816 passengers were being tracked by authorities under Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.

These passengers are those who carried certain risk because of suspicion that they might have come in touch with Ebola victims and are being monitored to ensure that they are attended to in case they develop symptoms of the dangerous disease.

"Report has been received from state IDSP units of 18 of the 20 states about 80 passengers being monitored. One passenger, who is being tracked and monitored in West Bengal has confirmed to be having Malaria...," it said.

816 passengers being tracked for Ebola Virus Disease

As on date, a cumulative number of 816 passengers are being tracked by IDSP. Most of them are in the States of Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

M/s Afcons and International SOS have brought back 113 passengers (including 02 Nepalese Nationals) from Liberia to India. 96 passengers landed in Mumbai and another 17, in Delhi. The passengers who landed in Delhi were also taken to Mumbai by M/s Afcons. They have all travelled to their respective destinations. State Governments have been provided with the details. The IDSP is tracking these passengers. Report has been received from the State IDSP units of 18 of the 20 States about 80 passengers being monitored. One passenger, who is being tracked and monitored in West Bengal has confirmed to be having Malaria (P.falciparum).

During past 24 hours, 181 passengers from the affected countries have arrived at the Airports of Mumbai (71), Delhi (44), Chennai (22), Bangalore (26), Kochi (4), Trivandrum (7), Hyderabad (4) and Kolkata (3). Six high risk (Suspect case) has been admitted on 1st September 2014 to quarantine facility at Delhi Airport. About 15009 passengers arriving at International airports have been screened since it started on 10th August 2014(as on 27th August 2014).

The Control Room in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has received 706 calls since its inception on 09/08/2014 morning and only 05 calls received in the past 24 hours. Most of the callers have sought information on signs and symptoms of the disease and travel related risk of acquiring the infection.
