Diarrhoea outbreak in MP continues, toll reaches 27

One person in Satna died due to diarrhoea on Saturday taking the death toll to 27 in Madhya Pradesh, health officials said.
Government hospitals in the state capital are getting more than 300 patients, suffering from diarrhoea, everyday, said chief medical and health officer of Bhopal Dr Veena Sinha.
?The problem is mainly arising due to contaminated water. After floods, the situation is getting worse. We have advised patients to take caution while consuming outside food and water,? Sinha said.

Madhya Pradesh ranks 5th in diarrhoea deaths

Indore : Madhya Pradesh ranks 5th in number of diarrhoeal deaths reported in the country. At least 357 people have died of acute diarrhoea in last four years (2012-2015) and 23.17 lakh people were affected due to the disease in the period.
Data obtained from India Stat, an organisation that compiles socio-economic statistical data, reveals that the numbers of diarrhoea cases in the state are stagnant since past four years. The number of acute diarrhoeal cases almost doubled from 2,90,705 reported in 2011 to 5,35,012 in 2013. The numbers of deaths have remained in double digits over the years.
More alarming is the fact that a large number of cases go undetected or unreported, experts say.

First drought, then heavy rains and floods, but Madhya Pradesh?s cup of woes does not seem to end as the killer disease diarrhoea has reared its ugly head, claiming 23 lives and forcing hordes of people to swarm hospitals in the state.
At least 600 people are reported to be in serious condition due to the disease since May, while over a 1,000 have paid a visit to hospitals with complaints of fever, loose motion and vomiting over the last week.
Clean drinking water hard to find
With floods yet to recede, clean drinking water is hard to find and people are left with almost no option.
In the last one week, about 300 cases of diarrhoea were detected every single day in the government hospitals of the state capital alone.
