Diarrhoea claims four lives in Gaya, Speaker unhappy with health service delivery

GAYA: With four Diarrhoea deaths reported from the Dumaria-Imamganj area of Gaya district and reports of contaminated water being used by the villagers, panic buttons have been pressed to contain the disease and prevent it taking an epidemic form. Malaria, Diarrhoea and Encephalitis have been regularly troubling the area people.
Playing down the out break of the deadly water borne disease, Civil Surgeon Dr Arvind Kumar said that all the four deaths can not be attributed to diarrhoea. One of the deaths took place due to suspected poisoning, said the Civil Surgeon.
Acknowledging the outbreak of diarrhoea in Magra and Narainpur villages, the Civil Surgeon said that he personally visited the area to galvanise the health system to meet the challenge. During his visit, he identified bore wells and open well as the source of trouble. The Civil Surgeon said that bad odour was emanating from water being drawn from the bore well in the village. He has directed the local officials to treat the bore well water to make it fit for consumption.
Besides the bore well, the Civil Surgeon identified an abandoned open well as the cause behind the out break of diarrhoea. Though the villagers did not drink the open well water, the poor quality open well water was being used for utensil cleaning and other kitchen use.
