AHMEDABAD: Even as swine flu is receding because of rising temperatures, dengue seems to be raising its head in Ahmedabad. Civil Hospital alone has recorded 30 cases, including one death, in the past three months. Interestingly, doctors say that the dengue-like virus does not test positive to dengue.

Since 1st of January this year, 1196 patients with the unidentified virus have come to Civil Hospital, VS Hospital, LG Hospital, Shardaben General Hospital and urban health centres. The symptoms of an infection by this virus are similar to those of dengue, including severe joint and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, headache and fever.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's records indicate that 1,257 patients had so far approached various hospitals with dengue-like symptoms. Of these, only 61 had tested positive to dengue. Doctors are treating to several patients with dengue-like fever which does not test positive to mosquito-borne disease.
