Dengue is a vector borne disease caused by the aedes aegypti mosquito found breeding in stagnant water.
An 11-year-old boy from Santacruz died of suspected dengue at a city hospital on Tuesday. This would be the first dengue death in the city so far this year.

Civic officials didn?t confirm the case and Surya Hospital refused to comment when HT contacted them.

On Wednesday evening, his school principal posted about the boy?s death on a social networking site. ?Today we lost a dear student of Grade 6 to dengue. The sad news has left all of us shaken. 89 confirmed cases reported on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The number of dengue deaths has risen in the capital as three more people succumbed to fever on Monday. The deceased were identified as Shahul Hameed, 65 of Vembayam; Bindu, 41, of Meenangal near Vithura and Baby, 60, of Aithiyoor near Balarampuram. The first two victims have been down with fever for over a week. Devi was down with fever since five days and breathed her last at her home.

Around 202 suspected cases of dengue and 89 confirmed cases of dengue were reported in the district on Monday.

Girl dies of dengue, Woman of Swine flu in Coimbatore district

A 19-year-old girl died of dengue, while a 52-year-old woman succumbed to swine flu in the district, police said today.

The teenaged girl, Keerthana from Karumathampatti in the district was admitted to a private hospital two days ago with complaints of fever and tested positive for dengue, police said.

She died this morning, without responding to treatment, they said.

Dengue death toll in Malappuram The man who was undergoing treatment at the Eldora private hospital died at Hosea. He was 40 years old. The death toll in the state has increased in the state. At least 13 people died of fever in the state yesterday. Only 3268 people from different parts of the world were admitted in the hospital yesterday. Dengue, leptospirosis and H1N1 are now available.

Kannada Mysore, June 27: Dengue cases have risen in the morning. As a supplement, today another girl is killed by a suspected Dengue. The deceased has been identified as Jaishvi (7), daughter of Prakash and Rani, resident of Gayatripuram. The fever has come from the last three days. It was recorded for treatment at a private hospital. But the baby died without treatment. Dengue fever in Mysore: Hospital with Cheluva filling up The hospital said the victim would be killed soon after getting the report. There is no cleanliness in Gayatripuram. It has more mosquitoes. He alleged that the mosquito bite may have been infected with a child.

Actual causes being ascertained

The Health Department on Tuesday said that 12 fever-related deaths have been reported in the district in the past two months. The department is examining whether any of them were caused by dengue.

Case sheets of all the deceased are before the District Death Audit Committee, which will meet soon to examine and evaluate the reasons for death.

Dr. Chidambar said over 1,900 blood samples were tested at the district laboratory, with 444 cases proving positive for dengue till June 26. Hundreds of blood samples are yet to be tested at the laboratory.

Of the 13 fever-related deaths reported in Mysuru district in the past one-and-a-half months, the District Death Audit Committee has certified only one case as a result of dengue.

As many as eight have been ruled out and two other cases have been kept for further investigation.

In the two cases, there were as the two cases had typical dengue symptoms but were found negative in NS-1 tests.

Dengue cases reported in the current year till June end in Tamil Nadu (around 4,000 cases) have equalled the total number of cases reported in the state in 2016.

While the total number of dengue cases reported in 2016 was 4,000, almost same number of cases were reported in a period of six months this year. There were 3,200 cases reported till the end of May, said K. Kolandasamy, Director of Public Health.

?Though there is a significant increase in dengue cases, mortality rate has come down this year. Only one death due to dengue has been reported in the State this year, though there are several cases of fever related deaths. There is a rise in dengue cases across the country this year, especially in southern States like Kerala and Tamil Nadu,? said Dr. Kolandasamy, on the sidelines of a district level review meeting held here on Saturday.

Comment: To June 28 of last year, Tamil Nadu reported only 982 cases with 3 fatalities to the NVBDCP. Tamil Nadu also reports thousands of cases of "mysterious fever" each year and multiple undiagnosed fatalities some of which might well be Dengue. - Ro

New Delhi: A research paper by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) published in the latest issue of Journal of Infection and Public Health has stated that the annual number of dengue fever cases in India is many times higher than it is officially reported.

?Evidently the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) captures only 0.35% of the clinically diagnosed dengue cases in India. This under reporting would play a major role in the government?s decision-making,? the research paper stated.

Bengaluru: Fourteen-year-old Padma from Magadi Taluk in Ramanagara breathed her last at Government run Vanivilas hospital early Wednesday and doctors claim it was due to dengue.

"The teenager was hospitalized on July 1 for dengue and respiratory complications. On Wednesday 1.30 am she succumbed to her illness. Our department officials have collected her case report and it is dengue with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)," said Dr T.K. Sunanda, District Surveillance Officer of Bangalore Urban. Clinically it can be said that it is dengue, but the officials would need a lab report to confirm it, she added.

LUCKNOW: The female Aedes mosquito that causes dengue seems to have opened up her sting to the state earlier this year compared to last year. As many as 89 cases of dengue have been reported in Uttar Pradesh between January and July 6 this year. The bulk of these cases came in June itself.
According to the health department?s records, in the same period last year, there were zero dengue cases in the state.
Lucknow has topped the chart with 15 cases reported in the city alone. The state has also seen two dengue deaths till now, one each in Maharajganj and Sitapur.
