A nine-month-old female baby died of dengue fever in the city on Friday night, following severe complications due to secondary infection.
The baby from Ellis Nagar was admitted to Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC), where her parents are working as doctors.
The baby, who was suffering from fever, was diagnosed as dengue-positive after several tests on admission to the hospital on December 16.

Parents protest againstschool after class 3 student dies of dengue
Death of a class 3 boy due to dengue triggered parents' protest at DAV International School in Makarba on Tuesday. The agitating parents accused the school authorities of not maintaining cleanliness and hygiene on the campus which, according to them, took toll on eight-year-old Mohammad Owais Patel. The child, who died on Monday, is the third victim of the deadly fever at the school, alleged the parents. Qurbaan Hussian, neighbour of Owais, said, "The kid died in three days after he was diagnosed with dengue. And this is not the first case. Even staff members were down with dengue.

INDORE: Another dengue death occurred in the city with a 5-year-old falling prey to the deadly mosquito on Saturday leading dengue toll this year to dengue to five. Number of dengue positive patients have gone up to an all time high of 160 in city comparing in comparison to last five years.

6-year-old dengue suspect dies

Indore : A 6-year-old suspected dengue patient died in a private hospital, on Saturday. He was admitted to the hospital about a week ago. However, the Health Department officials said they have no information about the patient. The department issued a show-cause notice to Dolphin Hospital administration once again for not informing the department about the patient.

Suspected Dengue Claims Seven Children

VIRUDHUNAGAR: In a shocking development seven children have died in a span of ten days due to suspected outbreak of dengue in the district. However government doctors blame it on self medication.

According to sources the mysterious fever started spreading in Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Ram Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Housing Board Colony at Rajapalayam Taluk in the district.

The first victim was Hansini (5), of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Rajapalayam, who died on Devcember 20 after vomitting blood, which was suspected to be dengue.

Uncovering dengue in India: morbidity estimates

ABSTRACT
Over the last few decades, reporting of dengue cases has dramatically
spread over almost entire India but the disease burden is grossly underestimated
under the current surveillance system.

This review based on literature searches in PubMed and Medline for the
period 1961-2012 describes changing epidemiological patterns,
emerging challenges to public health intervention for control of dengue
transmission in India and estimates magnitude of under-reporting. The
annual reported numbers in 10 selected states/Union Territories with the
highest number of cases during the years 2008-2012 and the surveillance
system estimated expansion factor of 8.9- 9.6 derived from Thailand
and Cambodia data respectively were used for new estimates of dengue
morbidity in India.

The reporting incidence of dengue is as low as 4/100,000 in 2012. The estimated crude incidence of dengue
for 2012 is 53/100,000 to 58.83/100,000 and the country annual health care facility based case load would
be around 700,000. India needs to expand surveillance activities to non-hospitalized cases and to the
distribution and abundance of Aedes aegypti throughout country and review state and local vector control
activities for Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Knowledge of vector prevalence is essential to estimate
the geographical distribution of dengue infection and associated disease.

Three children die of ?dengue? symptoms

The death of three children in Rajapalayam municipal limits sent shock waves as the local people on Wednesday alleged that it was due to dengue. Sources in the Government Headquarters Hospital said in the last 28 days, there were several cases of fever in Rajapalayam region.

Taking stock of the situation, the district administration carried out a massive cleaning campaign in coordination with Health and Municipal officials. The public were informed to voluntarily visit Primary Health Centres or government hospitals if they experienced any abnormal symptoms like fever with vomiting or other serious ailments.

Children, in the age group of 10 to 15 years, who had complained of fever had died in the past. While the parents attributed their death to dengue, the officials refused to acknowledge it. All that they maintained was the death was due to some ?mysterious? fever.

High Court takes serious note of dengue deaths

The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday took serious note of recent dengue deaths in Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district and told top officials of health department that it expects much better action towards prevention of such deadly diseases.

When a petition filed by social activist K.K. Ramesh came up for hearing on Monday, a Division Bench of Justices S. Tamilvanan and V.S. Ravi directed the officials to file by Tuesday a comprehensive report on the steps taken by them so far to control the mosquito menace.

S. Saravanan, Joint Director of Public Health (Vector Borne Disease Control programme), Chennai and Deputy Directors from Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Theni were present in the court apart from the deans of Government Hospitals in Madurai and Sivaganga. Arguing his case, the petitioner accused the officials of not taking sufficient action to control vector borne diseases and claimed that many dengue and chikungunya deaths had been suppressed since the officials were bent upon dismissing them as deaths due to ?mysterious fever.?
