Bihar: The death toll due to the cyclonic storm has gone up to 65 while over 2,000 people have been injured. The maximum number of 42 deaths were reported from Purnia. Deaths were also reported from Madhepura, Madhubani, Katihar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga and Supaul. Over 4,000 animals also perished due to the cyclone.

Bihar storm leaves farmers shattered

Patna: The tropical storm that ripped through Bihar has left farmers in the state distraught and helpless.
Repairing their houses that were destroyed by the storm, villagers in Purnia district said everything shattered for them within 45 minutes.
"I have never seen this kind of destruction in 75 years. I had taken a loan to do farming but everything is destroyed now," said Pankaj Yadav, a farmer in Purnia district's Harkheli village.

65 dead in Bihar storm
The toll in the killer nor'wester in Bihar rose to 65 as reports of six more deaths came from the 12 ravaged districts on Thursday. A report compiled by the state disaster management department on the late Tuesday night nor'wester said Purnia bore its brunt with a maximum of 32 deaths. Seven people lost their lives in Madhepura, three in Madhubani, two in Katihar, two in Sitamarhi and one each in Darbhanga and Supual, the report said. Over 80 people were seriously injured in the storm and are being treated at government hospitals, it said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an aerial survey of Bhagalpur and neighbouring storm hit area on Thursday morning and held a meeting with officials at Bhagalpur, CMO sources said. Kumar said there was no forecast about the storm which took the state by surprise and left a trail of devastation. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will tour the affected districts by air on Friday, said Vyas Jee, principal secretary to the disaster management department.
