According to multiple reports, the resurgence is driven by newly evolved Omicron sub-variants, particularly JN.1, with India reporting 257 cases on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Covid-19 dashboard.

What is it?

This variant is distinguished by its heightened transmissibility and potential to evade immune responses, even in the vaccinated population, said Dr Harish Chafle, senior consultant, intensivist chest physician, bronchoscopist and sleep disorders specialist, Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai.

Maharashtra reports two covid deaths since January, govt advises public to stay calm​

Mumbai: Maharashtra has reported a gradual increase in Covid-19 cases, with 106 people testing positive out of 6,066 samples collected since January 2025. Alarmingly, 101 of these cases have emerged from Mumbai alone, where the number of active cases now stands at 101.

Thiruvananthapuram: After a break, there has been another Covid death in the state. Two men died in Thiruvananthapuram within a week. The deceased were undergoing treatment for heart disease. Both were over 70 years of age. Both tested positive at the time of death.

The state has reported 74 Covid deaths in 2024. Health Minister Veena George had stated yesterday that 182 Covid cases have been reported in the state this month alone. 57 cases have been reported in Kottayam district, 34 cases in Ernakulam and 30 cases in Thiruvananthapuram.

Those showing symptoms in the state have been instructed to undergo COVID testing. The State Level Rapid Response Team (RRT) met to assess the general situation in the state.

The Health Minister said that in the wake of the high number of COVID cases being reported in South East Asian countries, Kerala should also be vigilant. With the rise in COVID cases in these countries, there is a possibility of an increase in COVID cases in Kerala as well. Therefore, vigilance should continue. The Health Minister directed that those with symptoms like cold, sore throat, cough, and shortness of breath should wear masks compulsorily.

MUMBAI -- India has more than 4,300 active coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, as subvariants of the relatively less-fatal Omicron variant continue to spread, mirroring a wider revival of the disease in parts of Asia.
The southern Indian state of Kerala has been worst hit, with 1,373 active cases as of Wednesday, according to the government's COVID-19 tracking website. Maharashtra, home to the country's financial center, Mumbai, followed with 510 active cases.

    India is once again witnessing a big rise in COVID-19 cases across the country. As of now, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country stands at 5,364. At the same time, 4,724 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals and home isolation across different states. Kerala leads the chart with 1,679 cases, followed by Gujrat (615), West Bengak (596) and Delhi (562).






    Here’s a quick look at active cases in some major states:

A 74-year-old woman, who had multiple health problems including severe heart valve disease, COPD, high blood pressure, and diabetes, died after testing positive for COVID-19.

A 69-year-old woman lost her life. She had pulmonary thromboembolism (a serious lung condition), along with morbid obesity.

India reports 6 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours, active cases rise to 6,133


India’s active Covid-19 case tally rose to 6,133 with 378 fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released on Sunday. At least six deaths were reported in the same period.

Of the six deaths, three were reported from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one from Tamil Nadu. Most of the deceased were elderly and had pre-existing health conditions such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, and respiratory ailments.

India is seeing a fresh rise in Covid-19 cases, driven by new variants including LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and the recently identified NB.1.8.1 subvariant.
Kerala, Maharashtra worst hit


Since May 22, the number of active cases has surged from 257 to over 6,000. Kerala continues to report the highest number of cases, followed by New Delhi, West Bengal, and Maharashtra.

Woman Dies Of Covid-19 Shortly After Delivery In MP's Jabalpur, 4th Fatality In Over A Week

A 21-year-old woman from Narayanganj in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district has died due to COVID-19, marking the fourth such fatality in the state within a week. Similar deaths were recently reported from Indore, Ratlam, and Khargone, prompting serious concern in the state health department.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Sanjay Mishra said the woman had been admitted to Jabalpur Medical College for a caesarean section. After the surgery, she experienced a drop in oxygen levels and was shifted to the ICU. She tested positive for COVID-19 and was moved to the Medicine ICU for isolation, where she later died. Mishra added that the woman had a history of breathing difficulties over the past three years, which made her condition more critical.

Covid in India: Death toll crosses 100 in current wave, Kerala leads national caseload

Covid-19 death toll in India has crossed the 100-mark, with most fatalities reported in Kerala, which has been worst affected by the recent wave of cases.

On Monday, 11 deaths were recorded, taking the total number of deaths to 108. While seven of these deaths were from Kerala, one each occurred in Delhi, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The seven victims from Kerala were all over 60 and had underlying health conditions, including cancer, pancreatitis, kidney disease, and pneumonia. The victim from Delhi was a 67-year-old man with a history of lung cancer.




Kerala currently has the maximum number of active cases at 1,920, followed by Gujarat at 1,433, Delhi at 649 and Maharashtra at 540.

The current surge in cases is suspected to be driven by the emergence of new coronavirus sub-variants capable of evading immunity from previous infections and vaccinations. However, experts note that these variants are not causing severe symptoms.
