GUNTUR: With five more people dying due to diarrhoea in the city on Wednesday, the death toll increased to eight since the outbreak of the disease two days ago. Three persons died at the Guntur Government General Hospital and one each at two private hospitals.

The victims were identified as K Samrajyam of Gudivari Street, Sk Ghouse and K Venkata Rao of Balaji Nagar, Padmavati of Sangadigunta and C Balakoti Reddy of Jiyauddin Nagar.

The residents of Old Guntur, Anandpet, Ali Nagar, Rajavarithota, Bara Imam, Sangadigunta, Punja and Ponnuru Road areas were severely affected by diarrhoea caused due to consumption of contaminated water. Some cases of fever and gastroenteritis were also reported from these areas.

Family members of Bibijan rushed her to the GGH on Sunday night. The elderly woman could not withstand the acute diarrhoea despite best efforts put in by the doctors at GGH.

Residents blame water contamination
A massive outbreak of gastroenteritis (GE) in Old Guntur has left three persons dead.

At least 50 cases have been reported, and the affected persons were being treated at government and private hospitals.

On Tuesday, two women ? Bibi Jan, from Anandapet and Fatimunnisa, 56, a resident of Vinobanagar ? died at the GGH here.

Guntur: Guntur has been diverted to the death toll of innocent people in Guntur. In the last three days, the disease has been reported to have killed 10 people. GUNTUR: Three more persons succumbed to diarrhoea in Guntur increasing the death toll to 15 on Thursday. Ninety others are still undergoing treatment at GGH, despite 12 days of outbreak of diarrhoea. According to the reports, 13 people died due to diarrhoea in Guntur in the last one week. In the last couple of days, the doctors said diarrhoea was coming under control but it again gained grip on Guntur with Nuka Raju of Potturivari Thota, Ganga Bhavani of Kothapeta and Burraiah of BS Nagar in Guntur succumbing to death while undergoing treatment in GGH on Thursday.
