While the world is still battling to contain the spread of novel coronavirus driven COVID-19 pandemic, a strange killer illness in two villages of Guhagar tehsil of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra has baffled health experts.
As per a report in Lokmat News 18, the unidentified illness has already claimed 19 lives in the last fortnight in the two villages - 9 in Kaundhar Kalsur and 10 in Padave.
A Muslim-majority area in Padave has witnessed the deaths of 10 people whose cause of death could not be ascertained in terms of illness. Strangely, none from these villages have reported symptoms indicative of any form of influenza, cough, cold or COVID-19. The only common factor among these deaths seems to be the advanced age of the victims.
Lokmat reports that the family members of the deceased insist that these deaths were due to natural causes but Medical Officer Ghanshyam Jangid says the number of deaths in quick succession during a coronavirus pandemic has sent alarm bells ringing among health authorities...
