71 test positive for A(H1N1) influenza
NEW DELHI: India registered its second swine flu fatality on Saturday with the death of a 53-year-old woman in Mumbai in the afternoon. Meanwhile, 71 persons tested positive for A(H1N1) influenza on Saturday; taking the number of confirmed cases in the country to 782.
The 782 confirmed cases include the two deaths. While 511 of the positive cases have been discharged, the others are presently undergoing treatment in designated hospitals.
Again, Pune ? which reported the first swine flu death of the country last Monday ? tops the list of confirmed cases with 34 of those who tested positive being residents of the city. A central team has been sent to Pune to assess the situation and put in place appropriate public health measures.
Delhi comes a distant second to Pune with 13 cases followed by Bangalore (10) Chennai (seven), Manipal/Mangalore (three), Mumbai (two), and Amritsar and Faridabad (one each).
In all, 3,624 persons have been tested till date across the country. Of these 618 persons were identified through entry screening, 707 through contact tracing and the rest went for the test on their own.
