BALASORE: Two more inmates of Gandhi Seva Sangha Purbai Kanyashram tested positive for Japanese Encephalitis (JE) on Tuesday evening. They were shifted to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital from the community health centre at Soro.

On Monday, five inmates of the kanyashram had tested positive for the disease. The five girls along with 27 others were admitted to Soro community health centre (CHC) on Saturday after they complained of fever, cough and body ache...

Assam: Four die due to Japanese Encephalitis in state
It needs to be mentioned that till now 9 people have been diagnosed with Japanese encephalitis and 12 with dengue in the present year.

A total of four people in Assam's several district districts have lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis.

The latest report of death comes from the Barpeta district where the deceased identified as Khanin Pathak of Sundaridia lost his life in the fight against the infection...

So far, the Japanese Encephalitis Outbreak has claimed 11 lives in Assam and another 254 people have been infected.

Japanese Encephalitis has claimed the lives of at least 11 people in Assam since the outbreak of the vector-borne disease earlier this year and another 254 people have been infected across the state with several patients still undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

The Assam government has directed the state health department to leave no stone unturned to prevent spread of the disease. All the government hospitals have been directed to provide free treatment to patients infected with the disease.

The state government has also provided financial aid of Rs 1 lakh to each patient undergoing treatment at private hospitals.

At least 442 people have died of Japanese Encephalitis in the state between 2018 and 2022.

While 94 people had lost their lives due to the disease in 2018, 161 people died in 2019, followed by 51 in 2020, 40 in 2021 and 96 in 2022.

A total of 2,145 cases of Japanese Encephalitis were detected in the state over the past five years.​..

Panic has gripped the Tauru block of Nuh district as four children of a family died after falling prey to a mysterious illness. The children, who started falling ill since October 19, were admitted to different hospitals where they died.

The Health Department suspects encephalitis as the cause of death. The entire area has been put on alert with 10 medical teams having been deputed there.

An urgent fever survey and immunisation drive have been launched. Speaking to The Tribune, Chief Medical Officer Dr Rajeev said they were examining all children in the area for similar symptoms.“We suspect encephalitis which is non-communicable. The deceased children were all immunised. We have taken blood samples of their relatives and sent these to the National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi. We will be able to identify the cause soon. We have put the area on alert,” said Dr Rajeev.​..

Doorstep encephalitis survey in Nuh after four children die

GURGAON: The health department is conducting a door-to-door survey in Tauru block of Nuh after four children with encephalitis symptoms died this month while other people started coming down with fever, muscle weakness, speech or hearing loss, seizures and hallucinations.

All the suspected encephalitis cases are from Chahalka village in Dhani area, where teams have been conducting fever surveys and immunisation drives for the last four days.

The four children who died are from the same family, and their blood samples have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi, and PGIMS Rohtak to determine the cause of death.

“The children had a fever and suddenly started vomiting. They also lost consciousness and showed altered behaviour. Encephalitis may be behind their deaths. We have ruled out diphtheria, rubella and measles because the children completed their vaccination regimes,” Batish said.

The deceased children were between four-seven years of age. Adnan (4) started vomiting uncontrollably on October 19. He was hospitalised but died within 24 hours. Adnan’s 7-year-old sister, Alisha, started showing similar symptoms on Oct 21. Taken to Nalhar Medical College, Nuh, she died within hours. Later, on Oct 22, two of their cousins — Nazish (4) and Danish (4) — showed similar symptoms. Taken to private hospitals in Alwar and Faridabad, they passed away within a day.
