Patna/Muzaffarpur: With the onset of summer, the fear of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) seems to grip Bihar, especially in the northern part of the state, which mainly reports cases among children with the onset of summer. Five cases related to AES and one death have been reported so far this year, while two suspected cases are undergoing treatment at SKMCH in Muzaffarpur. Dr Gopal Shankar Sahni, Deputy Superintendent and Head of Pediatrics Department of the hospital said that a patient is an eight-year-old child of Bandra block of Muzaffarpur, he has 104 degree fever. The other is Motihari's almost three-year-old child. Both have symptoms of AES, though a final report is awaited, which is likely to come by Monday...

New Delhi: The first case of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), commonly known as 'Chamki Bukhar,' has been reported in Bihar's Supaul district on Tuesday.

A child from Hriday Nagar of Basantpur block was admitted to Birpur Hospital after he developed a higher fever, but due to a lack of medicine for Chamki fever, he has been referred to a better facility for further treatment.

It is said that the health of four-year-old Hrithik Raj suddenly deteriorated. He started showing symptoms of AES. After this, his father Manoj Mandal got the child admitted to the sub-divisional LN Hospital in Birpur.

A three-year old female child, Shivani Kumari, died of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) at the Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, around 72 km north of Patna, Tuesday evening, hospital officials said on Wednesday.

The total number of deaths in the state due to Japanese encephalitis (JE) and AES, which is a cluster of diseases, involving the brain, has now gone up to four this year. Of these, three deaths were known cases of AES and one of JE. One death each has been reported from Sitamarhi, Vaishali, Patna and Muzaffarpur district, said state health officials.

GUWAHATI: With flood waters receding and people returning to their houses from relief camps, JE (Japanese Encephalitis) and AES (Acute Encephalitis Syndrome) broke out. Till July 6, heath workers detected 143 AES cases, claiming 16 lives. They have also detected 48 JE cases. State NHM Mission Director Dr MS Lakshmi Priya held a video conference with the officials of the State IDSP cell (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme) and State NVBDCP cell (National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme) today.

With the flood waters receding and inmates of relief camps returning to their houses, consumption of contaminated drinking water and subsequent reports of health hazards are coming from some pockets in districts. The NHM MD instructed all the district health teams to intensify the monitoring and timely reporting of fever cases to authorities for timely follow-up action...

Guwahati: Three more people lost their lives in Assam due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) on Tuesday. Till now, 13 people died due to the infection this month in the state. Meanwhile, Assam reported 17 more cases of Japanese Encephalitis in the past 24 hours, taking the tally of the infected people to 115 this month, reported PTI.
Out of the three deaths on Tuesday, two were from Jorhat and one from Golaghat. As per officials, Jorhat also reported six new cases of Japanese Encephalitis, while three were detected in Sivasagar.
Out of the 17 cases of the disease, two each were reported from Nagaon, Dhemaji and Sonitpur along with one each from Dhubri and Kamrup (Metro). Principal Secretary (Health) Avinash Joshi directed all districts of the state to constitute, a District Rapid Response team on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and JE by Saturday...

Guwahati: Three more persons lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Two persons in Karimganj and one in Sivasagar have died due to JE during the last 24 hours, the National Health Mission, Assam, said in the statement.

Besides, three fresh cases of JE were detected in Dhemaji, two in Morigaon and one in Dibrugarh, it said.

With these deaths, a total of 16 persons have lost their lives due to JE in the state.

Guwahati: Four more people lost their lives in Assam on Friday due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE). Till now, 23 people have lost their lives in July due to the infection in the flood-hit northeastern state. Two deaths each were reported from Nalbari and Morigaon districts of Assam.
Meanwhile, 16 new cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported in the state in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 160 this month, reported PTI. Four fresh cases were reported from Nagaon district, while three cases each were detected in Nalbari and Udalguri districts of the state.

Three more deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis were reported in Assam on Monday, taking the number to 30 in two weeks.

"As many as 13 new cases were also detected and the total number of Japanese Encephalitis cases in the state has risen to 183," a release by the National Health Mission stated.

One death each was reported from Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup and Lakhimpur districts. Among the new cases, Nagaon and Jorhat logged the highest with five each.

One fresh infection each was reported from Sivasagar, Hojai and Kamrup Metropolitan, the release said. One new case of Japanese Encephalitis was detected in the state on Sunday, though no deaths were reported.

Japanese Encephalitis which is a mosquito-borne disease is proving fatal in the state of Assam as it has claimed 44 lives across the state so far, according to the state branch of the National Health Mission (NHM). In the last 24 hours, three people died in the state - two in Nagaon district and one in Chirang district, officials said on Tuesday and is becoming more critical in Assam post floods.

The NHM, Assam data also revealed that eight new cases of Japanese Encephalitis have also been detected in the state over the last 24 hours - three in Nagaon, two in Tinsukia and one each in Chirang, Jorhat and Kamrup districts, officials said on Tuesday.

A total of 274 cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been detected in the state in the last 26 days. According to the data of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of India, 660 people died in Assam due to JE during the period from 2015 to 2021. A total of 135 people died of Japanese Encephalitis in Assam in 2015, while 92 people died in 2016, 87 in 2017, 94 in 2018, 161 in 2019, 51 in 2020 and 40 in 2021...
