A 17-year-old boy of Shastri Nagar area in Jaipur district has tested positive for Zika virus, said Dr VK Mathur, director of the public health department. This is the 2nd positive case of Zika virus in the area in less than a fortnight. The 1st case was reported on [21 Sep 2018].

"We sent samples of suspected cases to the National Institute of Virology [NIV], Pune, and one of them has tested positive for Zika," Dr Mathur said. The confirmation from the NIV came on [Mon 1 Oct 2018] evening, he added.

Sawai Man Singh Medical College principal Dr US Agarwal said 8 more samples of suspected cases have been sent to the NIV Pune, and the results are awaited.

Six Zika cases have been confirmed in India to date by the Union health ministry surveillance network: 3 from Gujarat in 2017, one from Tamil Nadu in February 2018, and 2 from Rajasthan in September this year [2018].

Zika surveillance was set up in 2016, when the World Health Organization declared Zika an outbreak.

"There is a high-level team of experts on the ground monitoring the situation closely. These cases were mild infections and recovered on their own. There has been no case of microcephaly reported due to Zika so far anywhere from the country," said a senior health ministry official, requesting anonymity.

[Given another case detection, physicians in the affected district need to consider Zika virus in patients with compatible symptoms, particularly in pregnant women who are at risk of Zika associated complications including preterm birth, miscarriage and microcephaly in newborns. Adults and children are also at increased risk for Zika-associated neurological complications, including Guillain-Barre syndrome, neuropathy and myelitis (http://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/zika-virus).

According to the latest WHO Zika virus classification, India falls into Category 2, which is an area either with evidence of virus circulation before 2015 or area with ongoing transmission that is no longer in the new or re-introduction phase but where there is no evidence of interruption (http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/...d=13074C8DFD3623127D71615C404B7B05?sequence=1). 50 pregnant women in Jaipur test positive for Zika ? but India lacks protocol to monitor them
Zika infections in pregnant women can lead to birth defects in babies. India?s guidelines on Zika are silent on how to tackle this.
...
Since September 23, 140 people have tested positive for Zika in the capital of Rajasthan. Fifty of them are pregnant women like Farhana. It is unclear how many of them know about their infection and the associated risks.

The World Health Organisation recommends ultrasound scans at around 18-20 weeks of pregnancy for Zika positive pregnant women to detect microcephaly in the foetus. It also recommends screening the babies born to them for microcephaly and other birth defects, and tracking their health for two years to identify developmental delays and other neurological abnormalities.

While India?s Union health ministry released national guidelines in February 2016, on surveillance, response and risk communication in case of a Zika outbreak, the document is silent on how pregnant women should be monitored and counselled.

Zika Virus strain that causes microcephaly not found in Rajasthan: ICMR
By Tehelka Web Desk - November 3, 201813

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research has sequenced 5 Zika virus strains collected at different time points of the Jaipur outbreak. Advanced molecular studies of Zika virus strains suggest that the known mutations linked to fetal microcephaly and high transmissibility of Zika virus in Aedes mosquitoes are not present in the current Zika virus strain that has affected Rajasthan.

However, the Government is maintaining a high vigil of the possibility of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women exposed to Zika virus as the strain may mutate in future or some other unknown factors may play a role in microcephaly or other birth defects.

The Health Ministry is reviewing the situation on a daily basis. Around 2000 samples were tested for Zika virus, of which 159 positive cases have been confirmed.

Madhya Pradesh records 127 cases of Zika but reports of fatalities false, says govt
SAKSHI ARORA 17 November, 2018

The Zika infection cases in Madhya Pradesh come close on the heels of an outbreak in neighbouring Rajasthan.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has reported 127 Zika cases in the first 15 days of November, days after more than 100 cases were reportedly discovered and treated in neighbouring Rajasthan.

According to the Madhya Pradesh directorate of health services, the cases have been limited to six regions ? Vidisha (around 50 cases), Bhopal (around 40), Sehore (around 30), and two each in Hoshangabad, Raisen and Sagar. The patients belong to all age groups, and include pregnant women and children.

Transmitted by the aedes aegypti mosquito, the virus causes fever, conjunctivitis, skin rashes, and muscle and joint pain in patients. It isn?t fatal on its own, but has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a trigger for the Guillain-Barr? syndrome and microcephaly.

According to the WHO, the Guillain-Barr? syndrome is ?a rare condition in which a person?s immune system attacks his or her nerves?. It says severe cases are rare, but might result in paralysis or death.

Increasingly, the patients of Zicha grew four times faster than Rajasthan

Publish Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2018 10:49 AM (IST)

Bhopal, Navdunia Representative All major colonies of the city are in the grip of the Zika virus. The virus has reached in about 20 colonies. Therefore, it is becoming more difficult in prevention. This is the reason that the case of Zika Virus in MP increased fourfold faster than Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, 136 patients have been found in nearly two months. With 15 patients received in the state on Wednesday, 124 cases have come in 15 days. Bhopal has 43 patients in six days. There are now 48 patients in total.

There are some colony in Bhopal, where 4 to 6 patients have been found. These include Govindpura and Kolar. In these colonies there are patients of Zika in adjacent houses. If the work of destroying larvae and mosquito is done immediately with patients' immediate investigation then the infection does not increase. The survey was delayed because there were not enough teams for the larva survey. Teams are not able to complete the survey in three to four days. For instance, on November 9, a patient of Zicha was found, while the larva survey was not completed till November 12.

Zeta's case found here

Four tamarinds, Govindpura, Sarvadharm Kolar, Avadhpuri, Ishwar Nagar, Naya Basera, Bhim Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Shabri Nagar, Baba Nagar, Tulsi Nagar, Bagh Mugalia, Barkheda, Ashoka Garden, Arjun Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Damkheda, Banganga, Amrai .

Rajasthan adopted this strategy

- Initially the cases were found in Jaipur. After this, 250 teams were installed on the larva survey every day. There are 125 to 140 teams in Bhopal.

- Samples of more than 500 pregnant women were taken. Only first-quarter pregnant women are being examined in MP.

- What is the genes of Zika virus in Rajasthan, its Niv Pune was immediately investigated.

- On receiving the larvae, a penalty of 500 to 1000 rupees was made. But there is no penalty in MP.

Only four rash victims in 48 patients

In Jika's Bhopal, only 48 patients had only four patients with symptoms of rash. The rest had a normal fever, but after the check they got infected.

Symptoms of jika

Fever, rashes in the body, back pain in the eyes, pain in joints and muscles, red eyes

Such is the spread of Zika virus

Aedes infected with viruses, bites of mosquitoes, pregnant women to infants, sexual contact and infected blood.

- No need to panic, send 14 samples for investigation

Dr. Ajay Baroniya, Joint Director of Health Department said that no death has been done from Jika till date. Do not need to be scared. He said that AIIMS has been sent to Bhopal for examination of 14 samples from Bhopal on Wednesday.
