More docs reach malaria-hit Sidhi district

BHOPAL: Doctors from neighbouring districts were pressed into service in tribal areas of Sidhi district where, 21 persons, mostly children, died due to an outbreak of malaria in the past fortnight in Vindhya region.

"The situation is now under control in Choupal Povai and neighbouring villages. Four temporary medical camps are functioning in the area to identify people suffering from illness and screen the population in the area for malaria parasite infection," Sidhi district administration spokesman said.

While district Chief Medical Officer Dr B B Singh himself is camping in Choupal Povai locality, a team of five doctors from Rewa district is being requisitioned to attend medical cases in the make-shift camps. "Nearly half a dozen patients are undergoing treatment in these camps and others are being given medicines," he added.

Malaria toll up to 35, CM raps health department

Bhopal: Two people died of malaria in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, taking the number of deaths in the locality to 35 since October this year. Around 144 patients have tested positive for the disease here and another six succumbed to the disease in Bhopal.

Top ranking officials of the state health department rushed to Sidhi on Friday after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan pulled them up them for inaction. The matter was brought to the chief minister's attention during the health department review meeting on Thursday.

Chouhan expressed concern that the deaths had gone unreported and instructed the officials to ensure that families in Sidhi get all medical facilities. He warned them of serious action if further negligence was reported. A team of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also been rushed to Sidhi from Jabalpur.

Bhopal: Leader of opposition in the state assembly Ajay Singh has demanded removal of Health Minister Narottam Mishra, holding him responsible for the death of 50 children due to falciparum malaria in the state.

Singh also sought a review of the heath programmes in the state since former health minister Ajay Vishnoi who had to quit from the cabinet following corruption charges. The health schemes in the state are not reaching real beneficiaries in the villages, he told media persons.

According to him, more than 17 children died in villages such as Chauphal Pawai and Chauphal Padav, 16 km away from the Sidhi district headquarters in the past 10 days due to malaria.
While deaths continued, district administration did nothing to save the poor children despite advance warning from an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) who first detected the presence of the killer malaria, Singh decried.

Bhopal, Nov 5 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, Ajay Singh today demanded dismissal of the State Health Minister, Mahendra Herdia, for his failure to prevent 47 deaths due to malaria in the Sidhi district. "If the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is really concerned about the people of the State, he should dismiss Herdia," the Congress leader told reporters. Ajay said that these deaths had taken place since August and the state government had done nothing to prevent them

Chatra: the outbreak of malaria in the district is constantly growing. Malaria claims lives of six children in a month .

Around 20 children below the age of six years have died in the past 11 months in different parts of the district, according to information provided by the district health department. Most of the children belong to economically weaker families and rural areas.

In November alone, four children including one 55-year-old woman died of an unknown disease at Karmikund Village in Domchach. The cases of children dying due to malaria have risen in the district in the past few years.

The department has constituted a team of doctors to check the rural areas, which did not bear desired results and deaths among children is on rise. The department claims the disease has been identified as malaria. In the past eight months around 20 cases of death have been reported at Sadar Hospital from Jainagar, Domchach and Satgaonwa. The Central Government and even the State Government have initiated various schemes to curb the loss of lives among children but they are virtually non-existent here.

Brain and death from malaria

New Delhi: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital on Tuesday was a life lost to malaria brain. 25-year-old Mohammed Nizam on December 11 Ajadnagr resident was admitted in serious condition. Nizam Mohammed, died on Tuesday. The doctors examined the brain was confirmed to be malaria. The brain still dozens of people have died of Malaria here.

Dengue, malaria claim life of 13 CRFP personnel
Thirteen CRPF personnel died and 11 others became seriously ill due to dengue and malaria in Naxal-hit states in the past 10 months, Rajya Sabha was informed.

Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said adequate preventive measures are being taken for the safety of the force from these diseases.
