GURGAON: There has been a threefold increase in the number of malaria cases in the city as compared to last year. This year so far, 94 cases of the vector-borne disease have been reported. In 2010, it was only 26 cases during the corresponding period of time.

Bhopal: Government studies suggest that malaria cases have declined over the past three years. However, the continuous rains in the city this year have increased the number of mosquitoes in the region.

Government records say Bhopal has registered at least a sixty percent raise in the number of malaria patients in July alone. Officials of the department of Malaria, Bhopal said there were 198 malaria patients in the month of June in Bhopal. The number shot to 525 in July, the department officials added.

One more dies of malaria in Ahmedabad, toll 11

The death toll owing to malaria has risen to eleven in the city after another victim identified as one Mainaben Patni of Saraspur ward succumbed to the illness at Shardaben Hospital on Friday.

Of the eleven deaths in the last one week, Saraspur ward has registered five (including the recent one) whereas one each was reported from Nikol, Vastral, Paldi, and south zone. On Thursday itself, 16 cases of malaria were reported from the city. The figures for malaria for August doesn't present a rosy picture with 198 people admitted to hospitals. During the year (Jan- Aug), 2,997 malaria cases were registered.

Malaria on rise, 68 cases in seven months

NAGPUR: There seems to be a rise in malaria cases being reported in the city with as many as 68 positive cases being registered in last seven months. Out of these, 40 cases have been registered in past 60 days. However, no case of death has been reported.

As per records of Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) malaria and filaria department, a total of 68 positive cases of malaria were registered in the city from January 1 to July 31 this year. While seven out of these were tested as 'Plasmodium Falciparum', which is the deadliest among all four species of malaria, the remaining 61 cases were tested as 'Plasmodium Vivax', which is the most common species.

While one case each of dengue and chandipura was registered, no cases of Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya were registered this year. Following this, the total number of waterborne diseases cases has come up to 81 till July.

Health dept reviews malaria death cases

AHMEDABAD: A team from the state health department reviewed cases of 15 malaria deaths in the past few weeks. The experts pointed out that it was observed that some patients don't complete the course prescribed for treatment.

"This causes a relapse of the disease. The department has asked us to monitor individual cases now," said an AMC health official. The AMC has now drawn up a chart of recent malaria cases and is ensuring that the link workers keep a tab on the patients to ensure that they take the full course of medicine," the official added.

Malaria claims yet another life in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: In spite of several measures taken by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to curb malaria and malaria-related deaths, the deadly vivax has claimed several lives in the city in the past 10 days. The death of a woman in the city on Thursday should serve as an eye-opener for the civic body.

Gulshan Bano Dilawar (20), a resident of Ramol area in the city, succumbed to malaria during treatment in VS Hospital. On Wednesday, Jayantilal Ambalal (35) lost his life to the disease in Shardaben Hospital of the city.
If statistics are anything to go by, malaria has claimed 20 lives in Ahmedabad in past 10 days. Over the last one month, 298 cases of malaria were registered in city hospitals. A total of 3,097 malaria cases have been reported in the city since January 2011.

Inspite of the attempts of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to curb malaria, the disease is spreading rapidly in the city and the deaths due to the same are also on the rise. The disease claimed four more lives in the city on Monday.

The victims were identified as Mangalbhai Ganeshbhai, 80, Ushaben Sunilbhai, 40, Hiraben Datarniya, 50, and Jaiprakash Gupta, 20.

115 die of malaria till June
Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 A total of 115 people have died of malaria in the country this year till June, the Rajya Sabha was informed Tuesday.

Minister of State for Health Sudip Bandyopadhyay told the house that 2,282 people have died of malaria since 2009.

He said the highest number of malaria deaths were reported from Maharashtra, followed by Assam and Mizoram.

The country has reported 440,301 cases of malaria till June this year.

During the same period the city recorded 18 falciparum deaths and a dengue death in the last fortnight.

2,900 malaria cases in Yamunanagar dist

The Health Department has detected about 2,900 malaria cases at government and private hospitals of Yamunanagar district in the past one month.

There could be a large number of patients getting cholera treatment at private hospitals or with some private medical practitioners as well.

Vijay Mohan Atreja, Deputy Civil Surgeon and Malaria Officer, Yamunanagar, said here today that about 1,450 cases had been detected in the Khijrabad belt in Pipli Majra, Bahadurpur and Bambepur. About 300 cases had been detected in Naharpur, 300 cases in Sadhaura, 125 cases in Bilaspur and about 725 cases in other parts of the district, including Radaur and Mustafabad.

Malaria grips Dhanbad; 3 dead, and about 30 ill
Dhanbad, Sep 1 : At least three people including two of a family have died of Malaria while more than 30 persons are suffering from the disease in this district.


Civil Surgeon Shashi Bhushan Prasad today said Mamta Soren (19), Pusha Soren (17) and Gurudas Soren of Galfarbari suffering from the ailment died late last night under Chirkunda police station area, Mr Prasad said four among the sick have been admitted to the Patliputra Medical College Hospital.

West Singhbhum, Jharkhand: More than 300 jawans of the CRPF , fighting Naxals in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, are having to tackle a new menace these days: malaria Malaria has hit the district in a big way and CRPF camps are very badly hit . Add to this lack of basic health infrastructure across the district, and there is a very serious problem facing our soldiers.

More and helicopters are being required to airlift more and more CRPF jawans to Jharkhand's capital Ranchi are increasing. As most CRPF camps are located in remote and inhospitable areas of this Naxal-infested district, primary healthcare is not available.

Trainee cop dies of malaria at Kishangarh

JAIPUR: The police training institute at Kishangarh is under attack. One under-training constable died on Sunday while five others were admitted to the government hospital there when found to be infected with malaria. Many constables have complained of fever.

One 21-year-old Mukesh Kumar Jatia, resident of Chittorgarh, had joined the institute five days ago. But, soon he was admitted to Yagyanarayan hospital of Kishangarh.

Patiala, Sep 12 (PTI) Three persons died of suspected Malaria in village Chalela in the district in the past one week. Confirming the deaths, civil surgeon Usha Bansal said one of the dead was a nine-year-old girl. A sanitation drive had been launched in the village, she said. Gujarat: Slum-dwellers who lived together during riots now feel unsafe
Ahmedabad: Vector-borne disease, plasmodium falciparum, claimed two more lives in the city on Monday. Twelve others were admitted to various hospitals run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. In addition, seven more malaria cases were reported from the city.

AMC's health department records state that Munnakhan Pathan (50), a resident of Narol and Ibrahim Shaikh (52), a resident of Fatehwadi were admitted to Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital where they succumbed to falciparum.

Although the health department has stopped issuing collective information regarding cases registered and death due to various diseases in a year, both malaria PV and malaria PF resulted in more than 70 deaths in the city since January 2010.

As people are preparing for Diwali celebrations, the deadly malaria is continuing to create havoc for them. On Tuesday, two people died of malaria in the city. Of the two deaths, one was due to normal malaria and the other due to Falciparum.

Since January, malaria has claimed 12 lives and Falciparum 43 lives. In October, the number of malaria cases recorded in the municipal hospitals is 132 and the number of Falciparum cases, 182. Similarly, the figures since January are 6,322 and 1,388. On Monday, 31 dengue cases were registered in the municipal hospitals of the city.

Bikaner set to become malaria capital

JAIPUR: The number of malaria cases in Bikaner's Sardar Patel Medical College hit record levels with around 1400 patients getting admitted to the hospital in the last fortnight.

In September, the average weekly number of patients detected with the disease was around 400 cases. "So far, the number of deaths in the district has touched 22 since January, while 60% them were reported in the last three months alone," said a health department official.

The cases of malaria plasmodium falciparum (pf), which is fatal, is also on the rise. So far six patients have died due to this form the disease in the district while 16 patients have died when they were admitted to the hospital in complicated situation with plasmodium vivax malaria, a health department official said.
