Increased activity in our area in Illinois

We have had no Positive Influenza A cases since Dec 20th, but since Sunday (March28, 2010) we have had 7 positive Influenza A patients come into our small facility. Is anyone else seeing an uptick of cases in Illinois or in other areas?

We have been seeing alot of coughs, fever, sore throats, etc. for weeks but we just started getting positives from our testing on Sunday.

According to Distribute Emergency Dept monitoring, Cook County was up over 10% in ILI visits from Mar20-Mar27. http://www.isdsdistribute.org/

Cook County Flu Report Week 11:
"Syndromic Surveillance: 0.84% ILI1, Sentinel Sites: 3.91% ILI2. Twelve (3.50%) specimens tested by participating laboratories were positive for influenza, of which 100% of sub-typed influenza A viruses were 2009 H1N1. The current level of influenza activity is lower than expected for this time of year. To date, suburban Cook County has had 603 hospitalized cases of confirmed 2009 H1N1, 20 2009 H1N1 deaths (18 adults, 2 pediatric), and 1 pediatric influenza A (unsubtyped) death. During week 11, four 2009 H1N1 hospitalizations were reported to CCDPH."

MONMOUTH ? OSF Holy Family Medical Center has announced that they have had four confirmed Influenza A cases in the past two days. No one was hospitalized, so no further testing was done, but, said Jenna Link of the Warren County Health Department, "most likely this is H1N1 activity."

The Center for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health have been predicting a third wave of activity. "This is typically the time of year we see an increase in seasonal flu activity," Link said.
