In Spain, influenza cases doubled with the arrival of winter.

The incidence of influenza was placed to close the year in Cantabria at 50.2 infections per hundred thousand inhabitants, below the national average, which rose up to 82.62 cases.
Thus, influenza activity has increased steadily in the whole of Spain to the point, according to recent data from the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, double the number of cases in a week.
These data coincide with the arrival of winter, as they correspond to the week of 19 to 25 December. According to this agency, Ministry of Science and Innovation, the incidence of the disease in Spain for the first time exceeded the threshold of this season, set at 67.4 cases per 100,000 population.
Influenza activity is increasing in all sentinel networks associated with a widespread circulation of influenza viruses with H1N1 viruses predominated in most of the territory subject to surveillance by the Sentinel Physician Network.
Thus, the community most affected remains Asturias, with 324.1 cases per 100,000 population, followed by La Rioja (186), Castilla y Le?n (177.8), Extremadura (177), Canarias (112.6) and Basque Country (100.8).
Already below the national averages Ceuta (79.7), Aragon (76.5), Castilla-La Mancha (69.3), Navarre (68.9), Madrid (52.8), Cantabria (50 , 2), Baleares (48.1), Melilla (33.8), Valencia (31.3) and Andalusia (30.7).
The Sentinel Physician Network has found a "significant" increase in the incidence rates of influenza in the three age groups below 65 years but still are the most affected, as in the previous week, children under 15 years.
