Bronchiolitis cases registered during the first six months of this year surpassed by about 6000 to those seen throughout 2009, according to data released by the Ministry of Health of the Nation.
The data emerged from the surveillance of respiratory infections in the country prepared by the health portfolio, which showed that so far this year saw 10 percent more cases in children under 2 years of age. As indicated by the website of the Ministry of Health, the total reported cases in children under two years during the first 19 weeks of the year is higher by 10.5 percent than the same period in 2009: it went from 55752-61648 episodes.
This year saw a number of cases of illness in children than previous years, with a peak in the epidemiological weeks 13 and 14.
While between weeks 17 and 19 decreased the number of patients detected to be located within the range of notification from previous years, scholars and statesmen as explained by a delay in notification. In addition, specialists said it is "expected" that the current trend is maintained over the following weeks, including the highest incidence, with the consequent impact on centers of this disease.
According to data released in patients younger than 5 years the predominant virus is respiratory syncytial (RSV), found in 86.5 percent of respiratory viruses identified, followed by parainfluenza (7.5 percent).
Meanwhile, in the general population the virus identified most often through the week in the country today is the RSV (84.3 percent) and were found isolated cases of H1N1 influenza virus pandemic in our province, Buenos Aires in the city of Buenos Aires, San Juan and Santa Cruz.
