Sad news was revealed this morning on the Effect Measure blog and the Flu Wiki, when it was announced that we have lost an early pioneer of Flublogia.

Melanie Mattson was one of the original founders of the Flu Wiki, and a very public advocate of pandemic preparedness.

I can't claim to have known her well; she and I only exchanged some emails along the way.

But her influence on Flublogia was unmistakable, and her private encouragement to me about my early writings on the Wiki eventually led to the creation of this blog.

Melanie, you will be missed.
